Retirement Planning

Retirement Planning
One of the joys of winter is there is some time to catch up on some reading when the temps drop into the "not again" category. So, I wandered through the local book store and met a nice elderly lady who suggested I read a book on retirement. I must have been looking old or something that day, but I wanted to be polite and asked her for her favorite book on the topic.
What she suggested has turned out to be the BEST book on retirement that I have ever read. It doesn't just cover the money part, but the entire aspect of how to retire well and really opens your eyes. I should have read this book 10 years ago and I really wish my parents would have read this book at some point, it could have prevented their current reality.
If you are in your 40's, 50's, or beyond, this book is a must read! It will wake you up and get you making smarter decisions in a hurry when there is still time. Funny thing is that it isn't a new book...published in 1998, yet I had never heard of it before now.
The book information:
"Get a Life, you don't need a million to retire well"
Author is Ralph Warner
Nolo Press

Re: Retirement Planning
First off you look old every day
I've been planning by purchasing real estate, saving but not enough, and I have a fedex pension but I know that's not going to be enough. A goal of mine is to own my home out right by the time I retire. I'll check out the book thanks

Re: Retirement Planning
Like you, I have targetted my retirement planning at the money side thinking that the more I set aside, the better life will be retired.
That book will alter that perception greatly! You will find it very eye-opening.

I also have one. I still have a few more years before I can start collecting it. 19 years with Express.Mo wrote: I have a fedex pension
Re: Retirement Planning
Mine life time annuity is probably a lot smaller that yours Tim I was only there 8 years. I miss the flight bennys but I was fed up with the back stabbing and politics.
I would imagine I could have stayed longer if was driving line haul.

Re: Retirement Planning
I did almost everything Mo. I started as a courier back in Boston, Worked in Portland Maine at the airport driving semi, and everything else. The only thing they wouldn't let me drive was the tug to push back the planes, then moved out west to Utah and finished my career as a courier. I also miss the flight benefits. and the shipping discount.
