Nashville Trip Empty Nashville Trip

Post by milspec6 Fri Mar 27, 2015 6:25 pm

I just walked into the house after spending the last 5 days between Dothan Alabama and Nashville, TN.  Like Mo said in another thread, sometimes you need to slow down and take some time for yourself.  This was a business trip, but I was able to clear the desk before 5 pm each day and spent some time on Music Row in Nashville.

Now that I am working on learning how to play guitar, it was really cool attending all these small shows in each bar.  Normally, I would have just grabbed a drink and enjoyed the music, but this time I found myself watching the musician's hands as they played and came away with some education.  I even got a few lessons from guitarists on the sidewalk for a couple of bucks in their hat.

The best part of the entire week came during the last night on the town.  Up to that point, there were some good musical acts, but nothing that stunned you....then I ran into the Stacy Mitchhart band.

I'm going to give this guy a plug, because not only did he put on an awesome show, but he was a really cool guy who was willing to talk with me between sets.  He even refused to let me toss too much money in the tip jar without giving me his cd album in return with an autograph.

I also want to give this guy a plug, because he was the best damn guitarist that I have seen live in 20 years.  If you get the chance (he plays Nashville every week and will be touring later this summer) catch this guy's show, you will leave happy and recharged.  It even made me go out and buy a second guitar (Godin Session Custom) to work up to playing some blues some day.

Enjoy...

I think they are called "Hobo guitars" or "Cigar Box guitars". They used to get made out of scrap wood and have a cool sound...3 strings I think too.

No line dancing for me. I just sat in the bars and nursed my drink watching the revolving musical acts.

You can build them for like $40 and playing 3 strings is a whole lot easier than 6 strings. Once you get your 12 bar blues pattern down, you just improv with a slide and notes....would be pretty cool and different.

I just might have to build one Very Happy
