Anyone suggest vacuuming

I was just thinking about that old Navy guy that I used to work for and some of the interesting ways that he ran his business. One of those consisted of the importance vacuuming played in the process. Not the pre-vac step, but a post vacuum step for HWE.

I probably lost you with that one, it didn't make sense to me back then either, but he insisted on instructing the customer to be certain that they did a good vacuuming the next day after we cleaned. Now, we weren't using encaps back then and he wasn't a shampoo guy either, but he still insisted that it was important.

His rationale was that there is always some water left behind in cleaning. Not even a Vortex running full out can recover 100% of the water, so there will always be some sediment left behind with that water. So, once the carpet was fully dry, going over it with a good vacuum would recover the other 5-10% of the soil before it worked its way back to the backing.

I don't make that suggestion and not sure if it was ever a good idea as it made you sound less effective than your sales brochure would lead them to believe, but it does make sense. I am just curious if anyone makes those same suggestions to their customers when cleaning with HWE and how well is it received?

I always ask them to vac the next day.

How do they normally take that suggestion? Do they seem confused and ask why or do they nod and get it right away?

Some ask why....I don't tell them much other than to fluff things up and that the vac will never see carpet standing nearly straight up again....it does a good vac too. Its just that much more they can get out....usually I say shut up...dont ask and just vac!

I like the fluffing up angle, I think will have re-try that approach. As a kid back in the day, I thought it was a bad idea, but I can also see it working now.

Maybe that old Navy man wasn't so lost after-all. Then again he normally cleaned while smoking a grenadier, so maybe he just got lucky on that advice.

I suggest that if the fibers are thick and I know I won't be able to get some things ( small kids toys parts ) etc out of there without digging them out with my bare hands.
Otherwise I usually don't. For some they would think that I don't do what I'm supposed to do with the cleaning process. I usually just shut up and process the payment, my favorite part of the job

Ive had a few customer not like the idea of vacuuming the next day as some of the straight encap franchises like Oxifresh recommends. They just didn't like the idea of something left in the carpet after cleaning

I agree with Mo, even if its going to get a tiny amount of soil out it would just kind of look bad

I also dont think that they would get much after we are done, but we clean slower than most.

not something I would ask them, we like to make them feel the carpet is sanitized and thoroughly flushed when they swipe that card

I always suggest a post vacuuming. Wicking will bring things to the surface during the drying process as we all know.

We clean slow too AC....I always feel like with a pre-vac, a cleaning then a post vac....they will no doubt have an experience that YOU get the credit for.

Have to agree, post vac, it can be beneficial.
