Painful job

I went out to clean an Auditorium last night and was pretty stoked about it as it was the largest job in weeks.  The weather was in the upper 50's and all was prepped and ready.

As with most commercial, it started late due to Security delays in getting the building opened up.  Then I started setting up and realized a few things.  The place was covered in popcorn, full trash cans of coffee cups, and about 85 degrees.

Hey, work is work.  So, I removed the trash cans to find huge coffee spills under each one and vacuumed the place.  Then came the seats.....oh boy, vintage 70's wool mounted one foot off the floor.  The cushions were flattened so the fabric was very loose and the seat bottoms were at mid shin on me.

I had only seen this room once before and we were bidding on it 3 years ago, but I should have gone back to inspect before agreeing to the former bid.  I was clearly too enthusiastic 3 years ago....and younger.

It took me 7 hours to clean 313 theater chairs and 2,300 sqft carpet.  I was moving pretty quick as the wool didn't show any stains, but the fabric would wrinkle up and made me nervous as to how it would dry down.  With the temps in the 80's it actually dried so fast that I couldn't spray more than 10 seats in a row or else it would be dry before I reached the last few.

I was a physical wreck when I was done.  It was like bending over to touch your toes with a upholstery tool for 7 hours and that wasn't good.

Oh, well, a few hours of sleep and tylenol and I am ready to go and clean another building tonight.  It was a good invoice, but I am glad there is nothing scheduled until at least Wed.  Lots of lessons learned on this one.

Wow that was good time, way to get er done

About 10 minutes for each chair, is not bad at all especially if they have arm rests, I despise arm rests on chairs, especially they are the ones thats usually in more soiled condition compared to other areas on the chairs.

The armrests are always worse than the seats...tough to clean.  These also had cloth panels on the sides facing the aisles.  I lost count how many had gum smashed on them....I guess people who take the aisle seats are all dicks.

I went back and checked on the building,  I was very pleased.  The seats looked really good and with only a few showing any wrinkles.  The place also smelled like a new car....wasn't going for that, but a nice result.

I started out making a fast pace, but you had to pin down the seat, stretch the fabric, scrub, wand, detail the sides and arm rests, and they even had leather trim.  It was one to cause nightmares.

At least the body felt good today.  Just finished the other building and made it home early without any lingering issues except some hand cramps.

Time to push some fluids and get ready for my 4 am wake up call.
