Doctor Heal Thyself
Now I went and did it. I was walking through the house to grab another bottle of diesel fuel additive from the basement. The stuff will freeze if left in the garage, so it is just one more chemical on the shelf.
The difference today is that it spilled in my living room!!
I had in a plastic sack and didn't notice the tear at the bottom. It fell out, bounced off the coffee table, and hit the floor upended with cap flying. Two full glugs transpired before I could stop it. That stuff is VERY AROMATIC.
I poured a bunch of oil dry on it and ground it in real good hoping to absorb it for a few hours. Then took the shop vac to it. Then about passed out breathing the vapors.
This is a problem to say the least. The additive is meant to separate water from fuel, boost cetane, and lubricate injectors, so it will not be affected much by water. The only thing I could think of was to just rinse the be-jeepers out of it and try an acid rinse. Twenty gallons later and enough bunny hopping with my water claw to earn a title, the house is still unbearable.....even with all the windows open.
Right now, I have a can of coffee grounds sitting on it hoping to absorb the odor and a portable air scrubber with charcoal filter cranked in the living room in hopes of reducing the vapors. I really have no idea what else to try short of cutting out the carpet and pad.....which might have to happen.
Anybody have any ideas? I've removed gasoline easier than this stuff...it just doesn't give up.

Oh man what a bummer, when I was reading before I got to the carpet part, I was thinking it spilled on a wood floor. But nooooo, it had to be the carpet right, damn!!
I really don't have a suggestion, you probably know better than any of us here.

Surprisingly, the air scrubber is doing a great job. I love these air scrubbers (Abatement Technologies Predator) with the super thick charcoal filters, but I can't run them for eternity.
Brutal stuff this additive. Will find out in the morning if the coffee grounds did any good. At least the house doesn't smell like gas station now.

Have you tried extracting it with dry slurry ? That stuff is great emulsifier for oils, grease, etc, if you haven't you should get some and try it, I would even go as far as sprinkling it dry on the areas as a last resort.
Good luck.
Good luck.
