No good deed goes unpunished
I was recruited to help a lady move today about an hour's drive from my home. Normal story, divorced with kids and unable to afford the house. Her church put the request out and I was on their email list after cleaning the basement a year ago.
I wasn't doing anything today, so I went there to help....I was the only one to show up. Go figure, the stranger was the only one willing to help this lady out. Busted my butt for 6 hours moving all the furniture, beds, and appliances to the new rental home.
When I got home, I was exhausted and my knee was sore, so I planned to just rest. Along came the phone calls asking for immediate cleanings....I didn't have the strength to do it. Missed out on 2 jobs today as a result.
At least I bought a lotto ticket in case the big man wants to make it up to me later.

I think the "Big Man" has already made it up to you. Having sent His only begotten son and all.
But props to you for helping out that much.

Happens milspec. You're an awesome person for going out and helping though,

You'll find that the members unwilling to actually lift a finger and help to be more common than not.
It's a nice thing you did, and I'm sure she appreciated it. I would also personally, e-mail the church and ask them to take me off their e-mail list since their members refuse to be bothered to help those in need. It's no wonder so many have turned away from Christ and the Church.
I'll get off the soapbox now....

Re: No good deed goes unpunished
I understand that soapbox Freemind, I really do. I find it terrible that her own church members bailed on the task. I bet there was even one or two that probably operate a moving company, appliance delivery, or something and could have knocked it out themselves without issue.
It did feel good to her, though, so I am glad that I did.

I'm sure there were several members with teenage boys with strong backs too.
But I guess why bother teaching those boys why they should be willing to lend a hand to a lady in need....
At least you were there for her when she was in need. You are a good man, Rob.
