Going Full-time again Empty Going Full-time again

Post by milspec6 Thu Jun 19, 2014 11:13 am

Well, it looks like I may becoming a cleaner full-time again. We are setting up defenses at work to mitigate the impact from the impending flood. My department has never replenished staffing since the last flood 2 years ago in an attempt to save money. We have been working on average 58 hours a week the whole time as a result.

I am just coming off of working 7 out of 8 days and finally had the next 2 days off on the schedule...which I have booked 4 full houses and 2 upholstery jobs. Now the bosses tell me that I have to work those 2 days as well due to us being short staff (gee, no kidding).

I am refusing at this point....they have threatened to fire all that refuse, so I might be back on the truck full-time again. Never liked the corporate world. Evil or Very Mad

I guess I will know in the next few hours.....

Congratulations. If you are going to work that many hours you may as well do it for yourself.  cheers

Well stated sir....kind of what I am thinking as well. It comes with some big risks, but there are limits to what I can tolerate.

1993, hated getting up at 5am and punching a time clock. Started PT, wife went back to work for 2.5 years. Then I started making FT $. I hate alarm clocks and punching a time card for someone else. First few full time years I was making a bit less that, at the JOB. Wouldn't trade my biz for anything, except the lotto. Haha. Coming up on 21 years next month.
Milspec, if you can make it on CC income alone, do it. Put some simple inexpensive marketing things in place to shore things up.
A quote from the movie waterboy(rob schnider) "you can do it".

Thanks guys...right now I am still trying to reach the knife in my back as I try to decide what action to take.

On paper, I should be able to replace this job and fund the business...I did it before. What scares me is that when I did it the last time, I died during surgery and nearly lost everything in the process. Those risks are still out there in the shadows as I am not getting any younger.

But like it was said above, I hate alarm clocks too and I was the only boss that I could ever tolerate (ex-wife included) 24/7, so the potential for rewards is also there.

I guess I will know by Monday...

File a corporation and then u can file unemployment and other weird things like workers comp if u get hurt etc. Hopefully that would take some stress off your back?

I've been incorporated for a few years, it seems like such a strange loophole, but it does help.

Thanks for the reminder.

Funny that you stated the $200 mark AC, that is the mark that I calculated. Actually, I calculated $500 gross, but that equates to around $200 net, so we think alike.

It doesn't seem like a daunting number to me...already have enough commercial contracts to cover about half the month.

Davey, I know that I would be happier! Being able to finish the day working less than 13 hours for a change would sure allow me the ability to get back into better physical shape...maybe feel a little younger as well.

Thanks again for all the encouragements...will know soon.

You sure can and more. When you are incorporated, you become the employee of the corporation instead of the owner. You will be eligible for worker's comp, group insurance policies, retirement plans, unemployment, etc.

The only caveat might be your region as many states require at least 2 named officers to incorporate and then there are other requirements as well. In Nebraska, I was able to set-up an LLC as a single officer, but we are rare in that regards.
