What a beautiful mess
The basement was about 20 x 20. Covered in toys and pee stains when I gave the estimate. With steps about $300 to clean. " The floor will be clear for you when you get here", she said. I arrived yesterday to perform the cleaning. It was in the same state as it was the week before-maybe worse. Her wedding picture on the wall portrayed a beautiful young women- now she was at least a 100 lbs. overweight, her face broken out, kids were running everywhere, 2 new twins to care for in addition to the others. She was stressed out. "No worries" I will take care of everything. Spent the better part of an hour putting toys and things in the un-carpeted areas of her basement. vacuumed the place, treated the "pet?" stains and extracted. I even threw in 2 5x7 area rugs for free! I didn't mind at all. On the way there the topic on the local radio station was the long term unemployed in NJ. People were calling in with their rags to riches stories. Engineer to Burger King worker, FAA Exec to lanscraper. Looking for work for years with no luck. And my state is in much better shape than most. I didn't mind at all, I was happy to be able to work on my own terms, in my business and make as much in a couple of hours as the callers were making in a week. It was a beautiful mess.
Re: What a beautiful mess
Kind of puts things into perspective when you see how tough it is for a lot of people out there.
Re: What a beautiful mess
Good for you. I don't think internet pricing by guy's claiming to make astronomical prices works for all regions because cost of living is different...for example I live in a decent size house with a 4 car carport, a 2 car garage and a 24 x 20 outbuilding with an acre and half property and my house note is $400.00 per month and land taxes are about $450.00 per year and gas prices are relatively cheap.
Glad you are making money and feeding your family.

Re: What a beautiful mess
Great attitude is right...it will pay itself back soon.
Larry, I need to move to your area...$400 per month doesn't pay for a storage unit up here and we are pretty cheap as far as the national average.

Re: What a beautiful mess
Yeah, but you have tornados and hail.. We just have hurricanes and usually have a weeks notice to prepare. I'll take a hurricane any day over your tornado's.
Re: What a beautiful mess
ya cost of living is different everywhere.
my 1000sqft rambler is 300k, its a good sized lot with 1200sq ft of shop space(that prob needs to be torn down soon) but still the house is really small.
I want to eventually rent it out and move out of the busy city to the farm lands, were turning into new york over here it sucks.
400 here wont buy you a parking space in the city, I think they are like 600/month in a garage downtown

I have a garden that big. Thank God for where I live and I can still walk outside and pee without offending my neighbors and when I can't I'll move.

I pee outside and I say they can look the other way if offended!

Me too. If they can't take a joke...well maybe they need to move.
Re: What a beautiful mess
I actually live very ruarally for NJ or anywhere else, I can see the appalachian trail from my house. A decent house cost $300,00 and up. My taxes are $7,800 a year, NJ highest in the nation I believe, gotta charge. Gas on the other hand.... Just paid $2.99.It's all relative.
Re: What a beautiful mess
Dang you might pay more in property taxes than California. But you got a nice view.
Out here you have to pee outside to keep the wild herd of Javalina off your property
