Taking Hose into Job Question....
I know a lot of guys coil it up or over their shoulder, and then lay it out/unroll it going in.
I like to grab the end and pull it off the reel as I'm walking to the furthest point of the job, most of the time.
Works well if it's a straight shot, but not if I'm going to the left or the right where the hose pulls across the van door.....like it does if parked on the street in front of the job.
But the way I like to do it there's a problem with the solution hose getting hung up on reel, or caught between the back door and the outside corner of the van. I'm tired of it, so I'm making something that will prevent that from happening, and the main reason I'm asking. Wondering if this could help others too?
So How do you do it??

Re: Taking Hose into Job Question....
What I need to do is make it a live reel and use something other than a 3/8 steel braided hose. Sometimes I think it would be better if the solution reel was mounted out the side door instead of the back. I would get alot more straight shots that way and not have to wrap it around the shoulder.
But if you have an idea on to make that that easier and save time in sure other people would feel the same way

Re: Taking Hose into Job Question....
This is the answer to your psi hose issue. One of the best items on a butler van is this hose door and guide. You can pull a hose through it as sharp as about 80 degrees and it doesn't bind up at all.
Buy one and install it into the rear door or side door and issue solved.
(Sorry about posting the vendor's link, but they block you from copying their photos of the door)

Re: Taking Hose into Job Question....
That looks like a page of all their products, so I'm not sure what you're talking about?........I looked threw it, and didn't see anything that jumped out.
I'm almost finished with mine.....tried it, and it worked great at 90 deg angle.

Is this it?
If so, I don't want to drill threw my door. But I did drill and cut my inter door to do what I'm doing.
Plus I need to leave doors open, because of air cooled engine. So I just stay away from those ruff 'hoods.

Re: Taking Hose into Job Question....
Ive always taken a length rolled up and backed out from the furthest point....then go grab the next section and do the same until I make the connection...going backwards. So, coiled over the shoulder.
I suspect things will change now that I will have live reels (never had before).....I may just do the live pressure line and maybe not the vac line. Got me to thinking here.

Yup, that is the hose door....the product guide has it listed about half-way through the page.
I keep forgetting that many of you are running sliders instead of direct drives, but if you mount them into the side door, it still works. Mine is side door mounted and I leave the door open as well. My hoses still run through the hose door never hang up on anything.

That's what I do, live psi, but not vacuum.
I still carry the vac hose into the building and lay them out in reverse like you described.
Re: Taking Hose into Job Question....
I think it's too much hassle to do the over the shoulder, not to mention I don't want that funked out dirty hose on me.
Here's what I did......
Simple and easy.
WARNING: This is what's call Southern Cal. Riggin'......AKA Honkey Riggin'!!......
Started with a 6" chem shelf hook.....
I drilled and used Jig saw to cut inter van door, so I could clip on the hook...........
Put nuts on hook (Because it's what I had) to keep hose rolling smoothy across it, and crimped nut on end to keep them on. Then just clip hook on either door depending on which direction I'm pulling hose out.......
I tried it, and it works great even at 90 deg. as if you were parked out front of the door. Pull hose off reel, lay them in the hook, and run for the back of the job!

Re: Taking Hose into Job Question....
Now that is some high-quality "farmer rigging" right there. Might try upgrading rollers, but I understand using what you have.

Re: Taking Hose into Job Question....
I hate to ask this question, but........
How would a reel work mounted on the back door instead?

Re: Taking Hose into Job Question....
I've seen it done, but have never considered doing it.......I like having the space for carrying in length.

Re: Taking Hose into Job Question....
you mean on the inside of the back door? Ive seen it done with the garden hose reels, they actually make them for mounting there, I think for general contractors not carpet cleaning specifically
Re: Taking Hose into Job Question....
Oh Ok.......that I have never understood, a reel for the water supply hose.
Because I've always wound it up on my vac reel. Quicker, and no need for a separate reel for it. So I don't see the need for 3 reels....but I'm not normal either.

Re: Taking Hose into Job Question....
you dont use a live garden hose reel Davey? I switched to the 3/8in air compressor hose for water supply last year on a live reel and its a real time saver, cant remember who told me about using air hose but man that was some golden advice
Re: Taking Hose into Job Question....
so when you pull up to the job Davey you pull off all your vac hose to connect water supply before you start pre spraying?
we connect fresh water first thing, then run pressure hose into house and start pre spraying, vac hose comes out last after job is all prepped and ready to go
