had an idea?
Bare with me. I've had 2 muscle aching, knee hurting, brain nuking days. So my brain is tired.
We have TM's using car engines, lawn mowers, electric, diesel. What's next, motorcycle? Hmmmmmmm.?

The thought the same thing when I was refurbishing my Honda Shadow a couple of months back
Re: had an idea?
There's electric M/C now that can about match fuel powered.........they even have a class for them now at Pikes Peak, and they set some respectable times. A friend of mine set the record in last yrs event 2014.

Re: had an idea?
ya theres some really cool electric dual sports out now
also the military has designed some for special ops, they are silent electric/fuel off road bikes with a really long range like 100miles. can carry gear and handle crazy terrain
they can run on any type of fuel propane, gas, kerosene, diesel if they get stuck somewhere out of battery but are primarily electric.

Re: had an idea?
Electric motors certainly have some potential for driving a TM...not sure about the norprmal motorcycle engine though.
I have only owned a Kaw 440 LTD and a late model KZ1000P that I bought from the St. Louis Police Department, but in both cases, the noise and rpm's needed would both be a problem.
I guess you wouldn't have to run it at 6,000 rpm to power most machines, but aren't they all designed with top end in mind? How many horses at the crank do they put at 3,000 rpm?
I think the future for TM's reside with small diesel engines coupled with a diesel heater. All that torque at low rpm, longevity, and the ability to tune them for peak efficiency like you find in the auto world today all add up to a winner.

Re: had an idea?
A V twin motorcycle engine would work better for a TM, more low end power
A gsxr engine wouldnt, just too much power and would be way too loud
both are designed to move a full size adult and a 600lb bike across pavement, TMs are just for moving some air/water not nearly as much resistance
you really dont need more than 30Hp to move some air/water about 300ft efficiently, if you want to move it like 1000ft then maybe 50+hp is necessary

Re: had an idea?
those zero bikes are cool for track, some models only have a 35 mile range others have 70 which is pretty good but riding a silent motorcycle in the street around cars is extremely dangerous
Ive been looking at electric mountain bikes for a while now, mostly because you can ride actually anywhere... through parks, every trail just about anywhere a mountain bike can go

I have a huge fear of those electric mountain bikes as I run along those same trails and those things are shooting past me at the speed of sound....well actually, they don't make a sound.
Do the rest of us a favor and put some deer alerts or something on those bikes, I need to have some chance at getting out of the way.
Re: had an idea?
Ahhhh, ^that's very cool^, ACV........but a lil pricy.
They look well suspended too.
Somehow I imagine you sporting this one AC .......
