I got some suggestions to start calling

children's museums
schools
banquet halls

Any suggestions on best way to approach and get to
THE decision makers in cases like these?

Yes, don't use the phone.

These guys/gals get a lot of solicitations via the phone or mail. What they don't see very often is one that shows up in person.

The museum, theaters, and schools that I have worked all came from just the simple walk in the door approach. The last one received over a dozen cold calls from cleaners in my area in a single week......I was the only one who took the time to meet the man in person.

You need to dress in nice professional attire (tie optional), be friendly, and approach them in person. Bring photos of your past jobs and have references ready if they ask for them.

It really isn't too tough to reach these kind of people, it is what you do when you do meet them.

To get to the decision maker; you gotta get by the gate keeper.
Long time ago someone said ask them "what problems they are having in keeping their carpets clean"?
Then be their problem solver!
Clean a difficult spot, make a simple repair.
Be the hero.

What kills off many cleaners are that they were new to being self-employed and still approached these managers like an employee instead of being the boss.

If you display a professiona demeanor, sound knowledgeable, and carry yourself with confidence, you will get their attention.

Let's face it, most can't pull that off.
