Shipping advice
This is right up your alley Mo, but others might have insight as well.
Forgive my Midwestern ignorance, but what is involved in shipping an item from Puerto Rico? I know that they are a US Territory and have a US postal zip, but are there extra hurdles involved for UPS / FedEx that I should know about? Is there a large cost difference or really long shipping times....or is it pretty much like Hawaii?
I checked UPS ground shipping estimate calculator and it shows 4-days to my door which blows me away if that is correct. I could save a ton on this item unless it involves really high shipping costs or duration.

Re: Shipping advice
Well, that makes 2 people mad at me today. I emailed the seller the same question regarding shipping issues and he took it very personal and responded with a full page lecture about insinuating that he was less of a US citizen.
I may have to stop dealing with people today, it hasn't gone well. Between this gent and the website vampire, I am 0-2.

Re: Shipping advice
Dang they're sensitive in Puerto Rico.
Don't recall any hurdles about shipping to puerto rico
What are you buying?

Re: Shipping advice
Puerto Rico votes on Statehood in June, if they are all this sensitive, we are about to gain another state of New Yorkers.
Wouldn't you know, it is a guitar. A rather rare one that I have wanted since I was a kid. It popped up on a google search in a small shop for about 60% of what I have seen them sell for in the Continental States.
The store said they wouldn't charge shipping either, but also said that it would go by USPS which makes me nervous considering distance and the nature of government employees.
I will likely just dream some more instead of pulling the trigger. I really shouldn't be spending money right now anyway since Spring hasn't started really rocking yet.

Re: Shipping advice
I would NOT be afraid to order it, provided there was insurance and protection like PayPal or a good credit card.
I've ordered a lot of stuff from China. I wouldn't worry.

Re: Shipping advice
I sort of feel the same way as you do Freemind, after-all, they are part of the USPS and have a US Zip Code. I am just a little worried about the length of shipping as the longer it takes, the more monkeys that will handle the package. I guess that is what insurance is for.
Of note, are you aware that Puerto Rico will be voting on Statehood this June? Last check, an informal poll was taken with 54% in favor of it, so we might be able to add another 70 Billion to the debt over-night along with another star to the flag.
Believe me Dp, I have far too many and have out-grown my skill substantially. I have been thinning the herd over the last month though, so it is becoming more manageable and there is room for just one more....if I pull the trigger.

Re: Shipping advice
I remember when Obummer was trying to get Puerto Rico to become a state. It failed the first time, as the people did NOT want it. I didn't realize it was happening again. Personally, I would rather NOT get another state in the union. We don't really need another state to have to pay tax dollars into, and get zilch in return.
