Best laser measuring device... what is your opinion
I had accidentally left my cheap one at a customer's house. It was a Craftsman and it sucked at measuring halls. It was a sonic laser that cost $20. The nicer ones cost over $100. I'm interested to hear Real Cleaner opinions about their experiences with what you use.

Stanley Fat Max laser is what we have been using for a long time. $100 at ACE hardware.
So far, been really good and accurate. We have measure halls that were over 80 feet with it.
Looks like it of course has been updated again. http://laserstreet.com/stanley-tlm100.htm
But here are some new ones close to it (update versions)

I have heard good things about the Bosch units.
Re: Best laser measuring device... what is your opinion
I use a Bosch model (GLR225) that I picked up last July. It has features that I will never understand let alone use, but it does measure 230 ft which was important to me for commercial work. If I was doing mostly residential, then I would think that 75-100 feet would make more sense.
I like the unit, well made and very accurrate (I verified it with a wheeled measure several times when I first started using it). It does have a few flaws though. It is a little slow (can take 2 seconds to give the measure), doesn't have a backlight, and the I often have to lift the head of it up a little to measure wall to wall as it dips down a little on carpet....not a big deal, I just place a poker chip under it.
If I was shopping for one today, I would look for the following:
1. Look for a green laser as they seem easier to see.
2. Make sure that it is rated to measure about 20% beyond your max expected distance.
3. Choose a simple model without a lot of calculation options.
4. Choose a good brand that will stand up to abuse.

Stanley from lowes. $40 measures up to 40'. I measure commercial with a wheel. I have used it for four years with out problems. It will give ya a bogus number from time to time. If you know what 20' should look like then no big deal. Just remeasure
