The new look...good or bad? Empty The new look...good or bad?

Post by milspec6 Fri Jan 17, 2014 3:13 pm

Since I will be transitioning my business to embrace a more earth-friendly healthier profile, I decided it needed a new look to go along with it. So, I am ditching the polo shirts and over-all generic corporate look that I had been using to a more "outdoorsy" look with earth tones and safari shirts. Despite the apprehension I had regarding the safari shirts, they really feel light and durable, so I am starting to like that decision.

For the fashion-minded people out there, it consists of brown Timberland Chukkas, Dusty Olive Chinos, Stone Safari Shirts, and an olive ball cap. I generally look stupid in caps, but it kind of works in my opinion. Plus, a cap generates a more relaxed casual feel...also keeps the sweat off you face.

What do you guys think? Does it work or is this a miss?

That raises the question....How many of you guy's wear a hat when at work and does it have your company name on it?
I'm like Mo, love the shirt but the hat....iffy...unless you like wearing them. If you do, then go for it. My hair is like a cheea-pet, tends to grow toward the sun like a bush and carries a bad case of hat head, so I opt not to wear a hat. I have nothing against them but just not well suited for me unless I'm fishing or catching, whichever you call it.

Those are the Cabela's safari shirt...they discontinued the green, I wanted that too (at least in the LS talls).

I see what you are saying about the hats, not sold on them either but they were cheap.  I figure I could always give them away if I don't like them.  I really don't have much hair, so it might keep the sun off me is about it.

I haven't worn a hat at a job but I am considering it. I tend to perspire when I clean it will keep the sweat out of my eyes. I don't like the style of the hat flat and lazy at the top I don't know what you call that style hat

I still have a lot of hair left at my age and think that wearing hats tends to cause it to leave faster...so only visors for me.

Looks good. I think that any uniform or attire that is comfortable and looks good is okay. If your not comfortable cleaning then what's the point. I like the hat, but then again I'm bald so I try to keep my noggin in the shade on sunny days. Sunburn on your head is no fun.

You need to take your hat off when greeting the customer and while doing the pre inspection with the customer. Put the hat back on when you start cleaning.

Great looking shirts. With little hair on top, I wear logo camo hats with orange letting. Keeps heat in. Always take off when meeting the customer and never wear in their home. I think that looks cheesy and un professional. Clean cut and wear any style of a uniform is important. Good luck.

The hat is not my cup of tea. I would not wear it or have it as part of my uniform. I like the shirt though. Pretty slick.

I have made the decision for my company NO hats will ever be allowed, except for winter time. Those will be logoed beanies, and there will be NO wearing a hat inside the customers home at any time.

I am in agreement on the hats...didn't work for me. I don't generally wear hats and I looked silly wearing this one. I guess I will give those away on the first few jobs or else send them to Ethiopia to be worn with the non-winning championship shirts that they receive every year.

The shirt was a winner. Soft feel, light and airy, yet feels durable. The shoulder epulats ride a little far back on me, but I am pretty thin. Over-all, I really like the shirt.

I went long-sleeve for now. I have an employee with tattoos and I have grizzly bear arms, so I always feel that it is more professional to be in long sleeves. I just don't think people want to see a very hairy arm cleaning their white sofa....and I am not shaving them for anyone.

These shirts are very light and breathable and I could roll the sleeves up if needed. By the way, these safari shirts fit true to size...maybe 1/2 size larger if anyone is interested. I've owned the Serengeti shirts from Cabela's and they wear like iron, but run almost a size and half larger than their label indicates.

Who puts your logo on the shirt? It looks great! I wish that I could find someone in town that could pit my logo on anything and make it look good. I've tried everyone and it looks kinda cheap. I just stick with Land's End.

I like the name of your business. How'd that come about? My first job cleaning carpet was with a company called CastlePro.

Cabela's has a corporate outfitter division that does the needle work. Pretty good price at $5 per item.

As for the name, I just wanted something easy to advertise so I built it around the old saying of your home is your castle. It would be perfect for an alarm company, but it still works okay for me. The logo and slogan came to my while playing in a chess tournament. That was my favorite part, except the slogan is actually a negative from a chess perspective. So far, people haven't caught the error.

From all the marketing books I've read about names and logos, you've really done both well.

It's a handicap to have a business name like "Steve's Carpet Cleaning." etc...
