Help! carpet bubbled up after we cleaned it this morning
saxony? I believe it is, maybe someone can confirm.
not sure why this happened and have never had it happen before..
does it need to be re stretched? or will this settle down on its own?
heat wasnt crazy high, probably around 200... maybe should have been more careful with this type of carpet

It happens at times. Should lay back down after it dries up in a day and humidity in the homes gets lower.

Marks right, some carpets will relax under moisture. It will tighten back up as it dries. The last thing you want to do is stretch that carpet.
I think I've seen it three, maybe four times in five years.

It doesn't happen often, but it scares you when it does.
Like the others have said, it will probably settle down once fully dried.

Scary the first time it happens, ain't it??
Usually an indicator that the carpet was not original stretched as tight as it should have been, or has loosened up over time due to traffic, or traumatic events like heavy furniture being dragged/slid across it as opposed to lifting it properly.
So you want to be on the look out for any signs of it being loose before cleaning.
Sometimes there will already be very small wrinkles present upon inspection.
Sometimes you will be able to lift it up away from the floor too far, too easily, by pinching it, or using the suction of your wand.
Sometimes you get no warning whatsoever.
The presence of any early warning sign should be the prompt to explain the PRE-EXISTING condition to the customer, and the possibility of it buckling after cleaning, and to assure them it will settle down when fully dried if it does happen.
Now that you broke your cherry, you will most likely have a keener eye for indicators that increase the possibility of it happening.

Re: Help! carpet bubbled up after we cleaned it this morning
Thanks guys,
ya Goomer Im always on the lookout for loose carpet, we have lots of it here with all the cookie cutter homes being developed and crappy builders grade with quick contractor installs.... usually its already worn out in a few years so the customer doesnt want any stretching, just clean so they can sell the house.
This carpet was tight with no bubbles before we cleaned it, looked like a good install in a high end home.
I call this stuff saxony and have for a while, can u guys confirm thats what it is?
I believe the saxony under some heat has a little elasticity to it, but man that was a crappy call from the customer... LOL

Assuming that hardwood went in after the carpet, maybe blame the hardwood guy for not hiring an installer to come restretch the carpet when he was done.
Good eye Sherlock.
The wrinkle is running parallel to the wood transition, which indicates the issue is originating from either the opposite side of the room, or the side meeting the hardwood.
I'd put my money on the issue being related to the hardwood install.
When the heat is on........always blame the other guy!!...............
Re: Help! carpet bubbled up after we cleaned it this morning
lol, that was the first response to his text message.
I said, "ive never had this happen in thousands of cleanings (at least nobody ever called me about it if it did), but I have heard of it happening if the install in a large room was not done with a power stretcher but rather a knee kicker"
which based on the neighborhood where they build like 4 houses in one day, and it being a very large room 40x 30 or so... I wouldnt be surprised.
when I saw the pics I was mostly worried about the construction of the carpet and whether the heat was too high causing it to shrink a bit then become loose after cooling down.

Re: Help! carpet bubbled up after we cleaned it this morning
No worries, it scared the crap out of me too. Its mostly sculptured berber. If you have a crb, push low moisture encap or compound cleaning. But the above answers are correct. It will re correct after fully dry.
