How early is too early? Empty How early is too early?

Post by milspec6 Tue Oct 28, 2014 10:14 pm

I just got a call from the neighbor of a recent customer asking for a house and furniture cleaning....tomorrow morning before 6 am. Shocked

I was pretty reluctant to agree, but he says that he will be at work all day and this would be hie only chance for weeks...and he would leave the cash on the counter. I told him the price...didn't blink at it.

The question is would you clean a house before 6 am? Noise ordinances around here forbid actions like that until 8 am, but he doesn't have any immediate neighbors as the homes on either side are for sale. It also means that I will only be getting about 4 hours of sleep tonight...not unusual, but I also have to clean 10k sqft of commercial tonight after dinner.

I guess I am going, but I'm not real certain it is a good idea. Probably a bad idea really, but I may not realize it until about midnight slumped over the wand. Rolling Eyes

No, honestly I wouldn't start my TM before 8am, just out of respect for the neighbors.

If he doesn't blink over price, I would do it, start with the upholstery first because on the lower setting, the machine wouldn't make that much noise, especially butlers are quiet, and plus he got no direct neighbors, go get them tigers Razz

Ive found the customers that ask for sundays, weird hours, wont let you have a 1 hr arrival window etc... tend to be red flag customers, not always but a common trend

I wonder why he wanted it cleaned before 6:00am if he wasn't even going to be there? If I agreed to do this job I would clean the carpet with my Orbot and furniture with my spotter machine the neighbors would here a thing.

Good point about the red flag AC this guy sounds like a very inconsiderate neighbor

I thought the same thing. I try not to do any job before 8 AM just out of consideration to the neighbors. I dont see why he had to have it at 6 unless if he didnt want to leave his house unlocked for a few hours for you to show up at 8.

It didn't fair too well actually. I woke up to a nice 30 degrees and started loading my tools into the van and putting the space heater away.

I arrived about 30 minutes early...no lights on in the house. Neutral Sat in the driveway and waited until the scheduled time...still no lights. Mad End up talking to the neighbor out walking her dog...nice gal and she asked if I would have time to look at a sofa she was thinking about having cleaned.

Another 15 minutes goes by and finally a light comes one so I head for the door. Guy says he over-slept, but would put the dogs outside so that I could get started. Problem was the place was full of obstacles...barely able to find the carpet let alone clean it. Twisted Evil

Changed terms, cleaned the furniture and cancelled the rest of the house. Then cleaned the sofa for the neighbor before blowing out of the area.

End result wasn't bad, but I am going to pay for that lack of sleep when cleaning tonight if I don't catch a short nap....have to install my hose reels in the Isuzu first now that they arrived. Smile

Should have listened to the "flake radar" on this one.

Oh and just to vent a little.

I went with a 300 ft capacity Rokan reel with a stack bracket to mount two psi reels. Will not make that mistake again. Every one of the "pre-drilled" holes for the psi reels and the stack bracket are off by about a 1/4 inch in the drilling. Absolutely nothing lined up with the "pre-drilled" craftsmanship.

So, now I have to add that to my list of things to do. Not a big deal, just need to re-drill about 8 holes, but I really would have expected a little accuracy from the factory.

At least it fit in the compartment (I measured correctly Rolling Eyes ) and does spin nicely, but I will not be in a hurry to buy another.

I wanted dual psi reels so that I can run one live and one storage to match situations.

Next time will be a different brand reel...that one sounds pretty good Davey.
