Black Death??
I was storing my mount for the sub-zero temps this week and when I removed my pressure gauge on the butler there was a black watery film on the quick connect. It looked like the old goodyear black death to me, but that has me confused.
The butler pressure gauge runs right out of the CAT pump and I haven't used goodyear hoses in years. The machine is plumbed with SS braided with teflon linings which are about 6 months old. I wouldn't think that they would create that black watery film, but it has to be coming from somewhere??
Is there something in the pump that can break down like this? I am wondering if I am about to experience another break down or a hose burst? It just seems so odd to find it there.

Re: Black Death??
The seals in the pump can get gummy and start to deteriorate. I noticed the same symptoms on my TNT and pulled my pump head off. The seals weren't hammered, but had started to give out or gum out. The seals were definitely going out and getting thin but hadn't failed. The pistons were covered in buildup that had to be scrubbed off. The pump still held pressure good, but I noticed that same black watery film. All is good after the rebuild. WWW.Autowashonline.com had the best prices on a rebuild kit that I could find.

Autowash on line has best pricing and great service. Just ordered last week a new cat pump and a seal kit for old pump as a back up.

I've been buying from Dultmier.com but they may as well skip the .com since you have to call to order from them!, dumb!

Re: Black Death??
Well my cat pump is 5cp3120, I think yours is 3cpxxxx isn't it ? And I would seriously look at that autowashonline.com since 2 members mentioned that, they might be cheaper than kleenrite, I got mine for $ 115 shipped ( pressure seals - 1 set and oil seals - 3 of them )

I didn't think about that all....good catch. I will need to check that one.
Re: Black Death??
Pump seals? I was a little worried that might be it. No big deal, just one more thing to work on this week.
I'm pretty lucky with Dultmeier since they are only about 45 minutes from my house. They rebuilt the pump last time....same day service.

Re: Black Death??
How much did they charge you to rebuild the pump Rob ? Do you have to take the pump out of your TM or they do that ?

I had to remove it, cost me $475, but it had a cracked rod as well. I'm not sure what a basic rebuild would cost.
Re: Black Death??
I have also been paranoid about black death in a home. I have always used a 100 foot hose in the house cause I heard the failures were at the connections. But its a pain in the arse to always have to pull out 100 feet if you only need 50. Am I too paranoid?
Re: Black Death??
I also use 100 foot lead hose, but not because of BD, just because lol.........
