What causes this.

Depress the wand trigger and hold it down. Pressure fades from strong to weak about 80% strong then 20% weak.

In other words when I'm cleaning the pressure will fade on me for a couple of seconds then return. Right now it's just annoying. I need to fix it before it gets worse.

The pressure regulator (unloader valve) has a small water leak.

You need to rebuild or replace that pressure regulator. Some can be rebuilt- The Giant brand regulator on my El Diablo can, but I will replace it soon anyway.

Sounds like you need to rebuild the regulator. The regulator has to be serviced from time to time by lubing the seals with super lube. Depending on the brand/style some are easier than others. It sounds like the bullet or stim assy. is sticking if you have a unloader valve then most likely a stim type. If it is leaking around the stem it's time to rebuild. There's O-rings on the stem rod that keeps it from leaking. There's a cold rolled pin that has to be punched out to repair that and the rest is fairly simple just follow the instructions.

Yes very likely the prob is what the others have already said, worn pump seals and/or the seals in the BPR......and like Eddie said they need to be lubed. Also if you have an air leak somewhere in the system, it can suck air and cause cavitation and this type of prob.

The other thing it can be (the same problem I had not long ago) which was the pump was starving for water when you keyed the wand, and demanded flow. In my case the PSI was fine until I keyed the wand, then it would drop from 400 to 100 psi and just stay at 100 psi until I un-keyed the wand, and it would shoot back up to 400 then.

What happens when you key the wand, will give an idea of what the prob is..........call me if you want help trouble shooting it, I might be able to help.
