Vortex for sale
There is a nice looking Vortex within an hour of me if anyone is looking. I might have to drive up and take a look at it myself if it doesn't sell first. Price looks good, believe it is a 2001 model.
Re: Vortex for sale
I'm thinking of selling one of my van together with my tm next year, if that happens I'm going to have to make a decision about getting a vortex or an everest 650, going to be a tough decision.

Re: Vortex for sale
I understand your plight, had I run into a good deal on a Vortex last Summer, I would not be dealing with this NPR and TNT project. Could have retired the Butler to reserve duty already.
I think it comes down to if you prefer the van or the box truck. I don't think you could go wrong with either one and at least the Everest 650 is still being made....I don't know about the Vortex.
I still might consider this Vortex and end my box truck build...I think I could sell off the TNT and Isuzu with enough cash to spare to update this Vortex and be off to the races.
Good grief, I'm starting to talk myself into another project....I need a vacation!

I had a buddy who started out with one as his first machine!! Best part about them is that you can run dual wands with independent pressure and temperatures....that can save a lot of time on large commercials.
I think they stopped building them, but I am not sure.
Re: Vortex for sale
A friend of mine has his for sale, truck runs great, pto needs rebuilt,, he just wants it gone. pricing it to move fast at $7000, put a couple thousand in to it and you would have one kick butt set up!!!
He had the his local repair shop go over it with a fine tooth comb, so can explain everything that it needs done.

Re: Vortex for sale
I think I saw that one Andy, it looks like a sweet deal for someone local. I don't know what it would cost to replace the pto, but it can't be any worse than my butler.....less than a grand probably. ACE would certainly know and hopefully chime in when he gets the chance.
Remind me, where is it located?

Re: Vortex for sale
3 companies from what ive been told manufactured the truck FOR vortex. One of those companies was Aerotech.
vortex was bought by blueline or something? - insert a bunch of legal battles?
and Aerotech now made their own version for direct sale.
Made allot better WITHOUT the stupid xenotherm oil heat exchanger
if you get an at after 06 it will be fully plumbed with dual 2.5 from rec tanks to ports. Unlike before.
Ideally you also want an older aerotech built on the nissan ud 1400 truck, not the 1200 that earlier ones had ( too small of a motor)

Re: Vortex for sale
If you look at older units, look at the 777 model. Has a 5009 blower. Some of these were built buy Aerotech. Some by Petersen. Do not buy these, too many problems. Mine is a 2002 Nissan 1400. Baught in 2005 with @53,000 miles and @3,000 hours ?. Currently 163,000 miles, 9,875 hours. Updated waste tank and vacuum ports to 2.5" march 2013.
Actually pretty easy to have work done on carpet machine components.
Nissan America is out of business, so finding chassis parts are getting harder to find. But can still find if you look hard. Of coarse there are expenses, but all equipment has expenses. I do not dual wand, but love that this has 260 gallon waste tanks and 260 fresh water tank.
If looking at new, talk with Jeremy or Ted at Aerotech. Plus, they are a great resource at repairs on older units.

Re: Vortex for sale
Some good information flowing on this topic, thanks.
I run a 210 waste tank in my butler and can't imagine having something smaller for large commercial. Having a 260 would be nice and that independent dual wanding ability really makes units like these tempting instead of needing to bring two vans all the time.
Anybody able to break down the best years and what to avoid? Did they really change all that much?
This local one for sale has stupidly low miles / hours on it for the age, which scares me. What is the scouting report on the 2001 era? What upgrades would you suggest for that year?

Thanks for the update Andy. I am going over to look at the one near me on Tuesday, but I would be willing drag one home from out of state as well....often less rusting.
Re: Vortex for sale
A little more info on the 7000 vortex,, cost to rebuild pto 700 to 1200,,
and it seems that is all that needs done to get this thing working,, the guy already spent several thousand fixing other things and now is just tiered of the project and he already has two working vans running. Just wants to recover some of his money and move on to down sizing his company.

Sounds like a good deal. I spent most of last night with a break down cleaning the Zoo last night due to a failed mix valve which shut off my water flow from the heat exchanger. It took me about 90 minutes to trace the problem and bypass it in 12 degree weather.....I didn't get done and home until 4 am this morning.
I was thinking about replacing this van the whole time.....still am. Thanks for the update, I will be thinking about it.
Re: Vortex for sale
That vortex sounds awsome as long as it doesnt need more than the pto.
If it needs other work the bill can easily get up in the thousands on those trucks. Theres one for sale here on CL and knowing the owner I can say for sure the thing needs a major service which Im sure is why hes selling it. He wants 27500, not sure what year it is.

Re: Vortex for sale
The limited exposures that I have had with them is that they can become expensive fast, but that is true with any commercial truck and high powered mounts.
I lived on a steady diet of butlers for the last decade or so and would pick up a high mileage van and just replace the motor and transmission from the start. Normally gets me 5 years of solid, no worry, cleaning for less than 18k complete.
The big question on a Vortex is how difficult are they to troubleshoot and repair...the rest is just parts.

Boy do I know how he feels these days...it is easy to waste both time and money in this business. The money you can earn back, but not the time.
Re: Vortex for sale
The more research I do on the vortex units the less I want one. It seems like a lot more cost with little pay back except for the super cool factor. I think your on the right track with the beverage truck and a good reliable slide in.
