Best Van Flooring?
I'm soon planing to remove my TM from my van to finally finish the Upgrade/Restoration I started about a year ago....
https://thecleanerslounge.forumotion.com/t618-tm-upgrade-rebuild?highlight=TM+Rebuild
With TM out, I figure it'll be a good time to replace or cover the old flooring in there now.. It's now plywood covered in AstroTurf. Which has survived it's purpose OK but we all know plywood and water don't mix well lol.
My plan was to cover it with a sheet type rubber/vinyl type commercial stuff, about 1/8" think, that I picked up for a few bucks as a Remanent. This would add a moisture barrier, add a bit of much needed cushion (which will be nice when being on my knees doing maint, repairs or crawling in to get something), which is really the main reason why I want to use this stuff. Plus it will be easy to clean and give a new fresh look over the worn AstroTurf.
But I wonder, is there something better I could be using that's fairly affordable?.......What is your van flooring preference?
I know Line-X is popular for rust protection, but the disadvantages are a major turn-off for me.

Re: Best Van Flooring?
Figured I'd add some pics for visuals.
The rubber/vinyl floor I'm thinking of using....
I know, I know, it has that 90's look. lol.....but I'm thinking it'll work well?
And the old.....

Hey Dave,
What are the disadvantages of Line-X? I haven't done a lot of research into it. Any info would help.

Several to me, but maybe not a big deal for others?
-A Line-X floor you still have an uneven corrugated floor unless covered.
-Still a fairly slippery surface.....I like equipment not to slide around.
-Hard as a rock, and noisy because it's not insulated in anyway really. Unless again, covered with something else.
-Corrugated floor harder to keep clean, line-x or not.

Re: Best Van Flooring?
The other issue with the LineX and other epoxy coatings can be their reaction to alkaline chemicals. Many of them will turn white in their presence.
You might want to reconsider and look into the Rhino liners though. They are actually pretty soft and objects will not slide around on them. Not the easiest to clean however.
I like the rubber panels personally...or maybe bamboo flooring that is water rated for bathrooms?

Re: Best Van Flooring?
Does Rhino Liner also turn white with high alk?
And I'd planned to have my TM frame coated with Line-X, but I wonder now?

The Rhino that I had was on a truck bed and didn't get exposed to high alkaline compounds, but it did fade in the sun...so did the LineX that I switched to on the next truck. I would suspect that they will both turn chalky when exposed to high alkalines.
Powder coating would be a good choice and be easier to clean since it is smooth. Look into your local craigslist for a guy who does powder coating. I found one that does it for a hobby catering mainly to the show car crowd. He has a walk-in oven that could handle anything up to about the size of a bath tub. He does good work for cheap, but you have to wait until he has enough to fill the oven, so it might take a few weeks. Probably have a few of them out where you are.
The cheapest route is the engine ceramics from Eastwood like Mo used on his TNT. It is about as durable as anything out there that the diy crowd can apply in their garage.
Re: Best Van Flooring?
I'm not looking for the cheapest route or DIY..I'm looking for long lasting, good quality finish, and not what was asked in this thread lol.......But after doing some research, I'll be going with powder coating on my TM frame.
Now, any thoughts on what's best for van flooring? ..........is there now only 3 of us participating members on this forum?
TIme to really just ship, seems close huh/?

Re: Best Van Flooring?
Spray the walls and wheel wells. Then if there's good paint on the floor cover it with rubber matting from tractor supply or someplace like that. In the long run it's cheaper. It's easy to wash out resist chem better it allows for drainage it's a insulating and sound dampener it's nonskid and scratch resistant so u want damage the coating when putting equip in or out.
So that's my thoughts enjoy.

Re: Best Van Flooring?
pond liner but you would probably want to lay down plywood first if you dont like the channels in the floor
We use outdoor black carpet, lots of debris from trees around here this time of year so with a floor that isnt carpet the debris gets in and slides around everywhere, with the carpet it traps it so you can just vacuum it out

I like the pond liner idea as a moisture barrier.
Wonder how many mils thick that stuff is?

Re: Best Van Flooring?
I bought that thick heavy duty rubber stuff from american van iyw pretty durable but it seems lime it Gets dirty real easy
Re: Best Van Flooring?
Pond liner is an interesting idea, but I don't know how durable it would be. I think you end up replacing them every 3 years in a pool.
