Here is an odd one
Since this silencer replacement kind of went side-ways and I am still trying to get enough time to install the dual mufflers for now, I ran into a thoght.
The silencer that I have was for an extended van and is about 10 inches too long to fit under my van (believe me, I tried) and can't be chopped down. What I was just thinking about was maybe moving the silencer farther forward to find the clearence.
In order to accomplish this forward position, the silencer would be approximately 10 inches forward of the blower outlet beneath the van. I suppose I could weld up a connection, but it would require a reversed "S" shape as it would have to exit the blower, go forward and then back to the silencer.
Would that create too much back pressure running through that shape, or might that work? I'm sure this dual muffler set-up will make things acceptable, but I would rather have that ultra-silent silencer working for me.....instead of sitting in the garage as a $700 mistake.

I think it would work just fine, assuming you don't choke it down with smaller dia. pipe. If you stick with with the stock dia or bigger and don't use really sharp bends you'll be good.

Really think so? I lose less than a 1/4 inch on the muffler set-up, but the silencer would be the same inside diameter. Not sure how much the bends would reduce it to, but can't be too much.
I might have to take another look at it tonight. I was able to get the okay from the store chain CEO to take a couple of days before doing the contracted cleanings (actually scheduled originally for tonight), so I have some time.

I wouldn't put too many bends in the system. Bends reduce airflow and cause more back pressure, which in turn creates less efficiency and more heat.

On an odd note, he does need more heat, so it might work better

Thanks for all the support gang. The twin mufflers helped quite a bit, but not the greatest. I should check it tomorrow and see what the db rating is, but I would like it to be better.
I guess I will look at using this silencer after all....in fact, I might go ahead and plumb it to the blower first to see what the db would be prior to starting over again. I've had enough of this project the first day that it started.
Funny thing about repairs, when you have the time and some nice weather, it is enjoyable to tear into a project as is the satisfaction you get when you are successful. Take away the right tools, the weather, the time allowed, and reduced success and you have my silencer project.
At least it isn't plugged up any more and my vacuum is strong.
