Coast to Coast Moment

I just finished 6 hours of cleaning commercial tonight and was driving home through a "bad" part of town in Northern Omaha after midnight. I take this route all the time and actually lived in that area at one time, so I have never been too concerned about crime rates.

On this night, I was just leaving the residential area en route to the interstate when I saw 3 people dressed all in black (ball caps, trench coats, jeans, boots, and gloves) on the road walking against traffic. They were spread out across the road like they were walking down the street in Dodge City looking for a show down.

It was such a strange scene that I actually reached under the seat for my loaded .45 as I approached them. Despite me and my headlights, they didn't move out of the way and kept walking right down the road on a collision course with my van. The whole time I kept waiting to see them pull shotguns out from under the trench coats or something and I was prepared to floor it if the did.

Once I got close enough to see them clearly, it freaked me out. They were all in black like I said and their ball caps were pulled down low over their eyes, but when I looked at their faces.....they didn't have any. I couldn't see any details at all....just a black shadow under the brim of their caps.

I damn near hit them with the van, but they finally parted when I was less than 30 yards away. I wasn't about to slow down to ask them to move out of the way. Even when I passed them, I couldn't see a face at all. I didn't even know their skin color.

I called the police after some distance and they were not happy with my description. They kept asking for skin color, facial hair, etc. I must have sounded like a nut telling them that they didn't have faces that I could see even though I drove right up against them when passing.

My guess is that they were wearing stockings or something, but it freaked me out the rest of the way home. I will be watching the news in the morning for these guys as they weren't out looking for a lost dog, that much I am sure of.

I think I need to start carrying a bigger gun......and maybe some Holy Water.

That would freak me out too. Maybe a judge loaded with 410 buckshot or personal defense rounds.

Just checked on the report, the police sent a car, but never found them and no criminal activity reported either.

All I know is that it creeped me out.

I actually had 8 hours going into the job....never slept that long in over 7 years.

What really made it creepy was that it wasn't in the residential area. I had just left the residential and was on a stretch of industrial road that led to the interstate. There was nothing on this road except a gas station about 3 miles away......and they weren't carrying anything.

I just can't stop thinking about it, so strange. Who the heck would walk abreast down a road against traffic like that, let alone doing it at night in all black? The dark face thing doesn't help me either.

ACE has a good idea with the bond arms derringer (judge), a .410 shell might not be a bad idea. Heck, a 12 gauge would not have been a bad idea either.

I think I will just mount a cattle guard on the front of my van in case I have plow through a group like that some day.

But seriously, wow that sounds scary! I've worked in some pretty ruff 'hoods in my younger days, and had something similar happen (body road block), but it was during the day and I was also able to avoid a problem. But why are we risking our life's like Cops, without the firepower?
