Re: Veterans day.
I was "forced" to clear my schedule and that sucks because I know it's going to be a busy week

Well, if I was on a hot streak like you, I would be working as well. Since my forced slow down due to a lack of equipment, things have not recovered yet. It is almost like people saw that my van was smashed up and they decided that I was dead.
I will be driving around in the van for a few days for exposure and then I will have to hit up some local commercial to get back into view. Things should turn around pretty quickly and I do have about 12k sqft commercial scheduled for Monday.

Re: Veterans day.
Or just go to Home Depot
Sorry to hear you're slow down there Rob, I got quite a few small jobs that I have to turn down because I'm making room for medium and larger jobs, I just raised my minimum price by $ 25 - $ 50 depending on whether they're in apartment 3rd floor and above and whether they need same day service or not, that usually scares some of them away.
I think I'm turning into Davey here

Re: Veterans day.
we dont really do apartments, Â our minimum is $130 so most turn away. Â Â Â I just pass anything like that off to a porty guy I know, Â Â he actually does really nice work as long as the carpet isnt too dirty.
so far working on Wed here, people tend to take advantage of these holidays to get carpet cleaning done so they dont have to take an extra day off work

Re: Veterans day.
My slow down has actually been good for me. The house projects are getting done in time for winter and I actually get some sleep again.
I am itching to get back in the game, however, and expect to see a busy month yet.

Re: Veterans day.
Crap Why didn't you tell me it was vet's day before I sched work.
I think it's disrespectful to work on a holiday. By making a buncha noise while people are trying to enjoy a day off.......and especially to vets on this day.

Re: Veterans day.
It depends on the holiday for me. Thanksgiving, Christmas, Memorial Day, and Easter are a no-go for me. The rest can be fair game for me since for some, it might be the longest time off they get all year.
Think about it this way, if you work the standard 9-5 M-F, when are you going to get the house cleaned up? Most cleaners don't want to work evenings or weekends....so single person does what? Having a holiday vacation that includes a week day is a golden opportunity for some.
As a Veteran, I don't find any disrespect in people working around me with noisy machines any more than the guy running the mower.
What I don't like are the stupid sales and seeing 80% of the homes without a flag on display.

Re: Veterans day.
I had a big X on Wednesday and the next call was wanting that morning...I thought well, one easy morning job is fine....then another, then another....So, three for Wednesday! my wife wanted to spend the day with me, I said, You are welcome to ride along...maybe pull some hose etc. She will pass. We can do lunch easy enough though.

Re: Veterans day.
Great Devon, now do me a favor and ask them what their work schedule is normally. I'm betting they are exactly the people that I was talking about.
A few years ago I made it a point to accept jobs on all days and at all hours. Granted, I'm single so the plants can live without me, but there are a lot of people out there with weird schedules these days and the cleaner that can support them wins.

Re: Veterans day.
Im going to be chopping down some wood for the winter hoping to chop enough for a chord
Re: Veterans day.
Rob, two of the three work where that is the day off that they can clean. one is a bank and the other is a Hospital....both have the day off....the other is retired I think.
Mo, I already have my wood piled!....I had some from last year and twice this year I helped work some trees and got the wood....I may have more than I want.

Re: Veterans day.
Im currently burning a dead pine tree I cut down in the back yard a month ago. I like the juniper better it burns cleaner and it seems like it makes more BTUs than pine. Its going to be in the teens over night in the next couple of days brrrr
Re: Veterans day.
I wont burn pine...we dont have much around here anyway. We burn oak, Pecan for the most around here.

Re: Veterans day.
You can never have enough firewood, never.
I grew up in an old farmhouse that used 2 large fireplaces to heat the house, no other heat source. I used to be able to freeze a glass of water in my bedroom at night!
Oak is great, but don't forget about some of those ugly trees like hack berry trees. Around here, they are all over the place and burn for a very long time, although they can be a little sparky.
Put your kid to work with an ax, Mo and you will be set. My favorite job was splitting wood as a child. Never liked the log splitter, always did it with a double sided ax from Norway that we inherited from my neighbor.
There was just something enjoyable about swinging that manly ax on a cold day. I would split for about 4 hours in single digit temperatures and come in with ice all over my head and shoulders.
Then I would get a cup of hot cocoa and sit by the fire until I was about to burst into flames from the intense heat......gets me in a holiday mood every time thinking about those days.
Now, I want to move away from winter and the thought of swinging that heavy ax sounds like a bad idea. Getting old is not for weak.

Re: Veterans day.
I wonder how palms would burn. Seriously we do have a few people with fire places here. It's veterans day and I stayed home all day working on the bikes etc. I had planned on going to the furniture store on the mall until I saw how backed up the freeway was. Turned around and went home. Supposed to rain all week (not much today) but be clear on the weekend. Hope the weather report is right. I like to ride on Sundays.

Re: Veterans day.
Palm as a firewood? Not really sure actually, but they are an oily wood, so they probably burn pretty well.....like peanut butter does.
Just throw some sweetened Kool-Aid packets in there and get back!!!
