Ouch! Blower Trouble!
The belt pulley came loose on the blower shaft and messed up the key way. It rode against the face of the blower and now is leaking fluid from the shaft seal. On Monday morning I will drive to excelsior blower service and see what they can do. I had a belt blow once and get wrapped up under the shaft seal, same thing. They fixed it for me. I don't know what they can do about the keyway on the shaft as I think it's attached to the impellar. Maybe they have an old on on the shelf, we'll see. I have had nothing but problems keeping pulleys and rubber couplers tight on the shaft with out spinning or eventually coming loose. Tried blue Loctite, doubling the the set screws. Anybody else have these problems Any solutions? Use bolts instead of set screws? The machine is an El Diablo, the blower- Roots 4.5 Rai-DSL-J
Re: Ouch! Blower Trouble!
There is a used roots 45 for sale by me for $525. I think it's in Denver. Looks to be in good shape.
Re: Ouch! Blower Trouble!
They should be able to sand down the burrs on the shaft, if they want to. So long as there are not deep grooves, you should be able to reuse the same shaft.
My thoughts are, is your pulley hole is too big for the shaft. Sounds like it is not sitting tight enough to the shaft.
OR it could be WAY too much vibration or belts are way over tight. Something is not right.
You may be just as far ahead to change the pulley while you are getting the seal done.

Re: Ouch! Blower Trouble!
It's a rubber coupler that hooks up directly to the engine. A pain in the A to change. I always line it up very carefully.
Re: Ouch! Blower Trouble!
I've owned a couple machines that used a rubber coupler and had nothing but problems. Just like you described.
Re: Ouch! Blower Trouble!
Ya, i've had all those problems. Keyway, cupler, pulleys up agaimst the blower. A good machine shop can help get things on the shaft tight again. Make sure things are locked down tight and aligned.

Tell me about it, mine decided to take a leak on me, unfortunately mine weigh close to 300 lbs and looks like nobody is willing to get it out without getting the whole tm out, pissed me off so bad !
