3M Multisprayer
I bought a used multisprayer 2 years ago hoping to use it in place of the hydro-force sprayers on smaller jobs and upholsetery. It was a nice looking set up with casters and a pull handle like flight luggage, but the spray psi sucked. The distributor told me that a new flojet pump was installed prior to sale, but it didn't have the original designed wand and tip.
So, I ordered a factory replacement wand assembly and it didn't make any difference....pathetic spray that made it unusable and out to the garage for storage it went. I talked about it back then and wondered if I should replace the pump with a larger one, but others told me that they were supposed to be low psi so I scraped the idea.
Well, today I was doing some maint. on my wands and decided to open up this multi sprayer to see what the pump was that was inside. I had to disassemble the panels to get at the pump and I was shocked at what I found.....a puny little 115v class F oscillating pump like below.
The specs show it as a max 55 psi pump! Who thought that was going to be useful?
So, now I am back to contemplating the installation of a real diaphragm pump with about 200 psi rating. I will even mount it to the outside of the body if needed for space, but something that would provide some flow. That little Flojet shut down the second time that I used it to spray encap....it couldn't handle it all.
Anyone with a multi sprayer of any brand happen to know what pump they have installed? Would 200 psi be about right do you think?

Re: 3M Multisprayer
I have tried many different sprayers and find that the best carpet cleaning happens when you pre spray around 400 psi. Gives better penetration, I dont really like any of the plug in or pump up, or battery sprayers most are around 70 psi.
I use them for protectors, sealers, sometimes spotting but not for main carpet pre spray.
Inline sprayers are hard to beat, especially when you can use a 1 gal jug for big jobs and not have to refill

Re: 3M Multisprayer
I feel the same way AC, maybe I should replace that cheap-azz pump and use it strictly for upholstery?
Re: 3M Multisprayer
Thats not the same pump I have on mine. Looks like the newer one went with the smaller pumps
Re: 3M Multisprayer
The 70 psi Flo-Jet looking type pump that portables use to use, or maybe still do has always been perfect for what I use mine for.............I would never use it to pre-spray carpet tho, but I do use it for just about everything else, that a HF type sprayer is way too much for, unless you like causing floods, and ruining fabric.

Re: 3M Multisprayer
Yeah when I bought mine they had switched over to the aquatecs cause the flo jets were problematic
Re: 3M Multisprayer
Maybe the pump in there now was not functioning properly to begin with as the spray fan was barely enough to wet a fabric. I had to hold the tip about an inch away and even then the fan never really opened up beyond about 30 degrees.
I can use a good sprayer for upholstery, but unless it developed a better fan, there is just no point to this sprayer.

Re: 3M Multisprayer
Im thinking about one of these for upholstery. Probably can't do more than a 3 seat sofa before you have to refill
Re: 3M Multisprayer
So true Moe, I actually use a couple of plant sprayers for upholstery right now. You can't beat the fan spray to lightly wet the fabric and they are cheap to buy by the case off ebay. I just toss them away after usage....I pay about $1.10 for each one.

Re: 3M Multisprayer
I use a 2 gallon sprayer for upholstery, just cut the 18"-24" inch spray wand down to about 4-6". Can clean 2 sectionals with it, I am also not lifting the solution container. I add a longer hose and this way the sprayer sits on the ground and I can maneuver around to spray. Most newer 2 -3 gallon pump up sprayers have a system where the wand is connected by grip of the sealing nut, just cut the wand re-assembly and spray. The larger capacity sprayer means you will have to pump less.
Re: 3M Multisprayer
I like just trigger sprayers for upholstery and the orbiting hand polisher, got one at harbor freight last year for pretty cheap.. still holding up

Are those Hudson's noisy when they spray? Is the tank pressurizing or does the pump just pull solution out of the tank when it sprays?

Re: 3M Multisprayer
Matt i don"t think they are noisy and there is a small pin hole in tank cap so pump is pulling.

noisy, No.
pressurizing, No.
The pump does all the work, suction side pulls the fluid out of tank, and then the pressure side pushes it out the wand when trigger is keyed.
