Woke up to an earthquake

Woke up to an earthquake
That might be normal for some of you, but here in Nebraska, it is rather rare to feel an earthquake. A little after 7 am, a 5.6 earthquake occurred in Oklahoma that shook the whole Midwest. I was getting rolled around in my bed, pictures fell off the walls, and some guitars were knocked out of their stands.
At first, I thought it was just a heavy coal train passing by. I have a rail line about a 1/2 mile from my 2.5 story home and once in awhile the coal trains passing by can cause a little shake to be felt upstairs. The difference was that the trains cause a little shake going South to North, while the quake was felt West to East.....and far more violent of a shake.
I was really confused lying in bed as to what the hell was going on. The last thing I expect is an earthquake in Nebraska....it was the first for me in this area and I grew up here.
I wonder what would happen if I filed an insurance claim due to earthquake in Nebraska?

Re: Woke up to an earthquake
crazy I remember the last one here, was a while back but I remember vibrating around shaking in a dining room chair at my parents house.
our next big one wont be pretty, actually pretty scary what they are expecting.
This article talks about a major fault line disruption that could level everything west of i5, author of this article won a pulitzer

Re: Woke up to an earthquake
I have only been through mild quakes in California prior to this, but have lived through many twisters hiding under over-passes or in a culvert. I found the quakes a lot easier to deal with.
Re: Woke up to an earthquake
its hard to imagine what this guy is talking about in the article, everything west of i5 underwater from a surge from northern california to vancouver BC.
1 in 3 chance it will happen in the next 50yrs
