ultrasonic cleaners
I normally clean my jets and qc's in a vinegar / citric acid bath, but lately I have been thinking about getting a nice ultrasonic cleaner for this purpose. The idea of being able to get a good wash of old parts like a qc and just replace the o-rings sounds better than just throwing them away.
It would also be useful for cleaning things around the house as well (firearms, carb. parts, etc.). Anyone using one that could suggest a good brand / model that will hold up to usage? Nothing too expensive nor large needed, just one that will not die a month a later.

Re: ultrasonic cleaners
Idk most ultrasonic cleaners ive seen are just effective at removing dirt/soil/dust.. not sure it would work very well with scale build up.
Ive taken parts that are scaled and literally soaked them in engine degreaser and the results are pretty marginal.
I think QDs just need to be replaced after a while.

Re: ultrasonic cleaners
I have a buddy that restores Coleman Lanterns and he soaks all the old brass components in an ultrasound...looks incredible when it comes out. Those are mainly carbon and light rust though...not sure about scale either, but with the right liquid I think it might work.
I replace my qc and hoses every Spring regardless of condition since most have winter stress issues anyway, but I was curious if anyone had any first hand experience.

Re: ultrasonic cleaners
They are more effective if you get one with heat too.
You are going to get what you pay for, when you buy a UC. Cheap ones are just that.
I don't have any god suggestions, but know from other people's experience. I just wouldn't use it enough to justify the space it would take up.

Re: ultrasonic cleaners
That is what I am afraid of, the prices are all over the place and reviews pretty much suck for anything of reasonable price.
Re: ultrasonic cleaners
Check pawn shops.
The last time I was in my local, there were two of them in there. Both pretty reasonable and not harbor freight crap.

Re: ultrasonic cleaners
Not a bad idea. I think I will ask my barber and dentist which brands they use, they should know what works and what doesn't.
Re: ultrasonic cleaners
We have pretty clean water here and when I look in my solution lines after a year or two of use there is so much scale I dont think a chisel would remove it lol
