Job Average? Empty Job Average?

Post by Davey Cracker Fri Jan 03, 2014 10:57 pm

What is your job average?......as in average $$total?

Does anyone shoot for a certain job ave amount?

When I first started in this biz working for a local BnS co. it was all about sales if you were going to make money, and the bigt thing was your job average.  Very Happy

So I wonder, does anyone strive for a certain job ave. amount?

I don't actually target any particular average amount per job. I have always viewed cleaning to be like stealing your first kiss, it doesn't matter how hard you try, it still comes down to when she will let you. Sometimes it is best to not be too aggressive.

I will make the offers on an added feature or service, but I just sit back and let them decide. I think that is the benefit of being the O/O compared to the employee who has to make the sale or else he will not last long.

As for an actual amount, that is very regional, but on average my standard 3 bedroom homes run about $250-$275.

I agree, price per job varies greatly per region, and also with high pressure sales ('not too aggressive"). But I'd guess your $250-$275 3bd rm per house is great, I'm usually happy with that here where the cost of living is stupid high.  wink

When I was a sub-contractor it was all about high pressure sales or you stand to not make much money or not survive. But like you said Rob it's different being an O/O, now I'm more about quoting a price on multiple services and letting the customer choose, and of course step sales........which is a wonderful low pressure way of selling.  wink And really my most effective method, especially with new customers.

Great post so far, thanks!

Job Average? Empty Re: Job Average?

Post by William Simpson Sat Jan 04, 2014 5:36 am

I have played the number game a lot over the years-- What I shoot for now, is to work 200 days per year- I do shoot for $ 500 to $ 600.00 per day, I have found the 200 days has been a good yard stick for us. Example: for 2013, We were able to work 182 days, avg day production was $ 523. per day, which broke down to $ 192.60 per hour of production on the unit. I am very big on cost per hour of operation. I base a lot of what we charge on our costs. I know there are questions so- we charge .35 per foot of open area, .43 to move , $5.00 per step, $ 125.00 per 3 cushion sofa, $ 48.00 side chair, $ 105.00 -loveseat aprx .75 cents on tile & grout There is just my wife and myself, its been 25 years

Job Average? Empty Re: Job Average?

What if, just if, it could be about frequency, not job average?

Custy A calls  1x every 18 months spending $220, that's $733/5 years.

VS

A client books the same work every 6 months at 1/2 price for
$110 a tic, that's $1240 in five years (remember the first tic is full price $220) , and that doesn't include all the "little things" she's added on (at a discounted -20% off regular rate) over the 10x you've been there vs the 3x you might have been there otherwise.

Now add a "service fee/ basic cleaning fee" (say $29.99) to every ticket that doesn't get discounted and you add another $299 to the $1100= $1509 over 5 years.

That's over 2x the income, cleaning at 1/2 price... AND you've gained over 3x the exposure in the clients neighborhood, with their friends, spouse, and extended family.

Job Average? Empty Re: Job Average?

Post by Danb Sun Jan 05, 2014 7:52 pm

Good point deacon. Our average for 2013 was about $177 per job. We do a lot of 3 room specials for $89 so our ad on sales definitely take up the average. We also do more than just carpet such as air duct cleaning, dryer vent cleaning, upholstery etc. So I guess that average is a little unaccurate. I am not sure what our carpet cleaning average is and that would take a bit of time to figure out.

Our average is about $ 160 -$ 175 per job, up from $ 140 - $ 150 per job on 2012, reason for that is I increased our minimum charge, that eliminated smaller pain in the butt and cheap customers that gave us headaches, and our gross wasn't far from 2012 and 2013 with 80 % less advertisements, so things are looking up, GOD is good :-)

GREAT info there, thanks! like the idea of simple per sqft pricing for moving furniture instead of per piece of furniture like ive seen some companies do.

200 days out of the year is a good way to base things as well

That's the approach I take with my business. My market is very price sensitive and my company is relatively young so exposure is important to me. As I build volume my marketing costs will trend downward and my company will be more profitable.

With that said if my prices are too low I will attract "event customers" (move outs, graduation party ect) that aren't interested in frequency, so I shoot for the sweet spot that maximizes value while still bringing in quality clients.

William, there's a reason you've been in business 25 years...you actually charge what you're worth. Congrats on your success!

I'm afraid all these guys with $89 3 room specials aren't going to last as long. I know, I tried going that route and lost my happiness fast.
