What was the first vehicle you ever purchased?
My first car in high school was a 66 VW Squareback. I paid 800.00 for it, it's pretty crazy how expensive they are now. I used go on dates to the drive in and fold the seats down and that's were the magic happened. Yeah baby!
Re: What was the first vehicle you ever purchased?
It was a red 1988 bmw 318i, lowered it, full body kit and aftermarket muffler, no "magic" happened since there's hardly any room for it to happen, lol.

That was a nice ride back in the day DP must have attracted a lot of chicks though,
Re: What was the first vehicle you ever purchased?
Mine was a 1967 Buick Lesabre. The thing was a tank.
Re: What was the first vehicle you ever purchased?
1972 Dodge Duster. Same color as this one. No fancy wheels.

Re: What was the first vehicle you ever purchased?
Love the VW Squarebacks Mo. They used a porsche motor and were watertight enough to float on water!
My first was a 1947 Willys CJ-2A with a 12 foot hydraulic snow plow and a small block out out of a 67 Corvette. Probably 80% of it was rust, no gauges worked, wiper arm fell off, no heat, manual shift and steering, chains on the wheels, and a 400 lb weight (cement-filled pipe) on the back to off-set the weight of the plow.
It couldn't break 50 mph, but it would get there pretty quick. During the winter I would take it out onto the county roads and bust through snowdrifts with it. Normally, I would end up half way across someone's field before it came to a stop.

Didn't know they could float those Germans were smart weren't they? You first car was probably fun to drive cuz you didn't have to worry about jacking it up.
Freemid should have kept that dodge probably worth a lot of money now.
Cars sure were stylish and built solid back in the day. You could back u into a wall and not see a a scratch. Do that now and the car is totaled

Re: What was the first vehicle you ever purchased?
Most of the vintage VW had sealed floor pans that allowed them to float. We used to fish out of a squareback on the lake...VW even had a paddle wheel hubcap as a little joke.
Granted, your brake linings would rust out pretty quick, but it was quite a sight to see a VW hit the boat ramp and go for a ride to the sand bars.

Re: What was the first vehicle you ever purchased?
That would have been cool to see. Did open up the hatch and fish out of the back

I bought that car when I was 15. Two weeks before my 16th birthday, I totaled the car. Hit a tree head on at 75 MPH.
Was out all the night before trout fishing and drinking. Woke up late for work. Fell asleep reaching under the passenger seat reaching for a pack of smokes.
Hit the steel dash panel and lost a small chuck of my skull above my eye (broke a price of my skull at the eye socket) when I hit the tree.
The ol' Duster was totaled.

Man Freemind, you are very lucky to have survived that wreck!!
Good thing you were in a "relaxed" condition or you might have been totalled as well.

True. I know I had a concussion, but didn't go to the hospital.
Miss that car, but not as much as my 87 GT Mustang.

Why did you set it on fire Pete?

Re: What was the first vehicle you ever purchased?
The mega wind went down my little giant and the flame shot out the bottom and melted plastic containers, pump up's floor buffer etc. Fire truck turned up but I had it under control at that stage.... lost water pressure and walked out to find that!

My first car was a 71 Comet GT. Three speed in the floor. Would run 96 in the quarter stock. Paid $125.00 those were the days most kids today wouldn't know how to start it let alone shift the gears.

You bet Ace.
I think it would be funny if they had to drive one with "3 on the tree".

They wouldn't have a chance!
My old Willys was a 3 speed (first gear was back and down) with a 2-levered transfer case and a ranger splitter which added a 3rd lever to the mix. Imagine a kid today jumping in there and seeing 4 levers.......even I had to stay sober to drive that one.
Re: What was the first vehicle you ever purchased?
LOL!
Even though things were more complicated than just putting it in drive, it sure was fun! Kids today likely will never know what it was to have fun.

Re: What was the first vehicle you ever purchased?
They engineered all the fun out of cars. You can't spin the tires and fish tail and I doubt any of them know how to pull a "Manix" move.
It used to be a challenge driving to work, sitting at the light and trying to keep the engine temp down by running the heater. Sometimes we would go to the junkyard about 50 miles away and try to drive some hulking pos all the way back, just for the challenge of it.
Now a car is just transportation. They all look the same and none of them come with the spirit of freedom and adventure.
(Good grief I sound old....and what the hell was the topic of this thread again? We seem to have just free-associated our way down the page)
