just thinking?
Several months ago I was asked to take a look at a recent commercial(dds) floor that was waxed. There we're a few hairs and very small debris under the new applied wax. He was asking why this happened and what could be done about it. I don't do full strip and wax jobs. Long story......
So I'm thinking out loud here: could you go in with a small scrubber to remove the wax in a little area(where a hair was waxed over), get down to and remove the hair and re apply wax as needed; AND NOT have the new and old wax show a outline between them??
I'm thinking a nitch service here ?!? Just brain storming here. Thinking of the possibilities .
Could I use a car buffer orbital with the right pad, or maybe a wood orbital to dry strip the wax.?!?

Re: just thinking?
If it's just 1 piece of hair, you can poke a hole on the finish until you reach the end of the hair and try to vacuum the hair out ? Then you can inject some finish into that hole that you poked ? Not sure if it's going to work but hey if they're willing to pay you $ 200 labor to get a couple pieces of hairs out, I think that's pretty good job for winter

Re: just thinking?
its not as a simple as painting is, in matching areas up....
there will be a line, after a few weeks though (depending how busy) that it would blend....
but for the most part, no you cant do it and make it look perfect....plus its a huge PITA if the floor is uneven at all, because your chem runs....

I'm certainly no VCT expert, but I think Floor guy might be, so I would go with what he said.
I was basically going to tell you about the same thing.
BTW How big is the piece of hair that it can be seen from standing looking down??...Wolly Mammoth Hair or what?

Re: just thinking?
Dental op room, 4 or 5 chairs. Was like 3-4 things. Floor was just finished a few weeks before I looked at it. Janitorial sub'd out to someone to strip and wax. DDS saw some of the trace items under the NEW wax.
I had that idea come to me in a "what if..." Wondered if it was feasible.
I could see the wax wouldn't match up and be uneven. Could it be buffed to blend it in and even? Just rolling the idea around ...

Re: just thinking?
I think the only way you would have a chance of blending it is if you used a hi speed machine and 'burnished' the floor after.

Re: just thinking?
Normally, I would say no, but if it was just finished a few weeks ago....then maybe.
Since the finish hasn't started to age yet, you can match the appearance, so you would be half-way home. The question then becomes, can you match the level?
Personally, I think you would end up having to burnish the entire floor. It is similar to doing stone tile, you can't just replace a single broken square, you will end up replacing all the squares around that one......often several rows around it.
Being a DDS office, I go back to the palm tree idea....I was only half-joking about that option. Is this flaw located in a place where you could cover it with furniture or is it right out in the open?

Re: just thinking?
the problem is, unless your PERFECT.... you will have an over lap which is adding to the finish which by nature makes it shiney....
Now here is a thought, and I dont know if it would work because i just thought of it....again PERFECT....leave it about a 1/4-1/2" away and burnish it... Causing the finish to soften and become pliable thus MAYBE blending

That's an interesting idea right there.
Re: just thinking?
Pick out the debris, wax over the spots with a small microfiber paint pad, let the spots dry, then burnish the room with a natural (hogs hair) pad. Everything should blend nicely.
