What were they thinking?

What were they thinking?
I just finished making the cleaning rounds for a major grocery store chain. They ripped out the old carpet and remodeled of the past month and I couldn't wait to see this new arrangement as the old one sucked. Well, this new set-up sucks even worse.
They replaced the cart storage area carpet with vinyl tile.....can't wait to deal with that in the winter with all the ice melt. I also have to separate the job as I can't trust my solution hoses resting on that kind of flooring without melting it. So, I now have to move the van once to get to the other side.
The carpet has such deep ribs to it, that it was impossible to get a vac seal with any of my wands and the cleaning results suffered as a result. It took almost 20 minutes longer to compensate for the poor recovery....that hurts the margin.
Then, I found out that they have a table at the end of the entry with free coffee and popcorn available!!! It took about 10 minutes to vacuum the dang popcorn alone....another hit to the margin.
What the heck were these guys thinking? This contract just turned sour as my net income will be crushed with all the extra time it is going to take during the winter months.

Re: What were they thinking?
Dang, that sounds like a big mess.
Maybe you can talk to the higher ups, explain this situation and hopefully be compensated for the changes causing all the extra time spent?

Re: What were they thinking?
I don't think I've ever been in a grocery store with carpet. It's definitely time to renegotiate

Re: What were they thinking?
I think you are right Ken, this one is going to be a stinker in the winter now. Even in good weather, this is a marginal job now.
Re: What were they thinking?
grocery stores here are cheap asses. They have all the floors buffed regularly and pay absolute bottom dollar.
the guys doing it are always drug addicts looking like they crawled out from under a bridge
these are nice grocery stores too! they have all the organic/natural foods and are super expensive to shop at but they really lower the bar on who cleans their floors.
commercial work is tough here, theres tons of guys willing to work 2am-9am for $120.00

This is also a high-end grocery chain....maybe I am one of those drug addict scum and don't know it.
Funny part is that they always win as I end up shopping when I'm finished, so they get some of that money back right off the top. What can I say, they have a great bakery.
