Advertising on the internet
I get tons of calls about Google partners this, and SEO that, yada yada yada!....but this one guy called and was very mellow and not pushy with BS...so, I respectfully listened and liked what they had to say....I think Im going to try it unless you guys have some reason not to.
It's basically retargeting banner advertising.....facebook and many major site we visit. He really wanted me to try a month to prove it will be my next thing. He will call friday and for $300 I can get 25K impressions and he seems to think I will only do this as my advertising after seeing results. what do you guys think? its called gositeinc.com

Re: Advertising on the internet
I hate those calls and can't zap them fast enough.
I'm not saying that it will not work, probably does, but I always ask myself why do they need to pressure me so much if it is such a great deal for me?
I don't deal with anyone using pressure tactics, even if the individual was mellow, the company he represents is anything but mellow.

may be true...Im the kind of guy who loves advertising...well, loves to learn about it...I dont know how this will work but they can only get me once....how can they get you one time and be around for long? If this is a flop....they might as well throw in the towel because im telling!

I agree, I get those "google" calls all the time and hate them! "You're listing has expired, or you're not listed, or will get you listed in the #1 spot" kinda thing.
Not saying they can't help, but it's basically SEO help right? Again not a bad thing, I just get sick of the constant sales calls really.
But I do think internet advo is where it's at now. The biz I've gotten in the last couple years from it waaaay out does any other print advo I ever did in the many years past.......and the best part is a lot of the net stuff is free. Hard to beat free!
Speaking of which, have you guys been getting any action from "Next Door"?.....I started a thread awhile back about it. I've gotten 2 jobs in the last two weeks from it, and the best part there was no effort or cost on my part to get them.

Its different here ...Im betting Rob will agree being he is in an area similar to me im guessing...minus the homeless guy.
But Yelp and Angies etc just doesnt happen here very well...Ive asked two customers to leave a review on Y and A and both said what is that? (Yelp, Angies)

Re: Advertising on the internet
A lot of my own advertising is driving via the net.
I have a website and will build a second one this winter. I did my own SEO.
I do not advertise on facebook or any place like that.
BE CAREFUL that you don't get suckered in somehow. Meaning thinking you can drop it after a month and you can't. Ending up stuck with a 300 a month bill or some huge termination fee of some sort.
Depending on your market, 25K impressions may not be a lot of traffic. The banner will likely have less than a half percent click rate. People are not turned on by banners anymore, unless there is some kind of carrot dangling. Even those that click, less than 1 percent will likely buy.
If the terms are like he explained, heck it's only 300 bucks. Worth a try but I would not sign a contract even if it turns out to be a favorable type of marketing.
Things change and what if 2-3 months down the road, it is a big zero? Who wants to pay 300+ a month for the next year?

It is the same way here. I went after advertising on Angie's List from the start and thought it would blow up, but nobody around here was using that resource. I would mention AL and they would always ask me "Who the hell is Angie?"
Freemind's warning is a very good one....don't agree to squat long-term.
Re: Advertising on the internet
Ive had amazing success advertising on facebook....goes to show areas are different. Im sure if you search to see how many people use specific terms in my area you wont find much....just to small for the "big" internet thing....BUT i have a hunch that with everyone thinking that way....much of the small traffic will be mine if I seek it out. IDK?

Re: Advertising on the internet
I think a one time shot is worth finding out if it has merit.
Thanks Freemind and Rob for sure....the market I understood years ago (California) is much different here....
Rob, do you ever pick up work just talking with the guy at the coffeeshop? facebook does well for me....I did an advertising boost on FB and for $35 got 4 jobs and those turned into referals.

I know what you're saying, but I do believe it's only a matter of time before they're big in your areas.
Here's my thought for getting established now on both of them for 2 reasons......
1) once in a while you will (I do) get a call from a son or daughter from out of the area looking for help for their parents or relatives. Guess what, they might live in the LA or another area where they're use to finding help on Y or AL, and if they're that's where they're going to look, but search in your area. And guess what's going to happen if you're the only one on there, or the one with the best or most reviews? Like I said, it happens to me about once every month or so.
2) Again it's a matter of time before your area catches up on internet dependence (people might still be using the yellow pages there?), but it's a matter of time before they ditch it for the net just like people have here, I'd bet on it. And if you're already established with some good reviews, again, what do you thinks going to happen, who they going to call?..........Ghost Busters?
Best part is it's free, sure it might take 30 min to get your free page and good BnA pics posted, but then any calls that come along are free jobs............And I guarantee the more reviews you get the more jobs you'll get.
When you get the "What's that" when asking them about Y or AL, then it's time to educate and explain what it is. Just like Next Door, a lot of people don't know about it here yet...........hell a customer told me about it 2 months ago, and I've been telling customers about it since, and using it myself. People won't know unless they hear about it.
Geeze if I helped myself as much as I've tried to help here today I'd be a rich man!!

Re: Advertising on the internet
Devon take the winter to learn how to use Google adwords and run some pay per click campaigns. When you get started google will give you free support with set up and running campaigns if you have a 10.00/day budget.
https://www.google.com/adwords/
You know the ads for carpet cleaning that you see above google maps and the organic listings when you plug in carpet cleaning your city. That you PPC ads.

Smart move brother. I did that here and the competition is hard pressed to catch to me. Yelp is useless here

Re: Advertising on the internet
SEe that's what I'm saying!
And you'll be ahead of the competition if you get yourself on the board now.......because one day it will be used more often in your area.
Just do whatever you can to start building those reviews, as many as you can....the more the farther you'll be ahead.

Cool.
See if you can get those FB reviewers to post them on Y and AL.......since that's there the internet world will see them.

Re: Advertising on the internet
those spam calls are just companies that will take your money to put it towards google ad words and keep a cut, or just flat out steal your cc info
Re: Advertising on the internet
AC...thats the way they make it feel....I dont know how they make any money doing this, unless they perform and get you each month.

Re: Advertising on the internet
I received 4 more calls from them SOB's in the last 12 hours....starting at 5 am.
I wouldn't do business with them even if they could double my business and make me 20 years younger. They are dang lucky I don't start using an air horn on them when they call.

Re: Advertising on the internet
Annoying isn't it? That's why I only pickup locals doesn't stop all of them but at least they don't waste your time
Re: Advertising on the internet
They must read the board....got 2 more in the last 30 minutes.
So, guess who is getting their ear drums blown out by an air horn?
