the new house
So we've been in since "just before Christmas". Having a few small issues.
The heat pump unit outside is noisy. Like a sessna warming up noisy.
Exhaust fan in bathroom stopped working.
2 hinges on kit cubbards came undone.
Seams in carpet are noticeable. A couple of places the backing isn't butted up together, were seamed.
Ceiling fan threw some sparks the other day when turned on.
Feakin heat unit in garage is right in front of were I park my van. Literally 3-4" of clearance total, front and back of van to pull in ?!?? If it was placed 3' to left...
Saw a crack were the wall meets the ceiling, going into hallway.
Got frekin ice build up and some water has crept inside. Paint in top corner of ceiling has run a little. I pulled out a extech mo280 moisture meter. 1 time using it. If I put the setting proper and tested right, reading is >2%. But I'm guessing there is more moisture in there...
Our builder told us about the first of DEC that we were about $8k under project. Last thing you want to do is have major varaience of the proposeal to bank. So he was going to cut us a check for the saving. We met the other day and he shared final #s. Now its almost $800. S&@%*
And we still have a code thing to fix with the power and junction box; which were not in the nid. So that will come out of our pocket:(
And the biggest thing? These 1.6 g/f elongated toilets are crap. As in the angle of said matter gets skid marks:(! Know what I mean Vern?
A week to 10 days ago, everything was just fine.

Re: the new house
Are you fricking kidding me? This is new construction? That builder sucks I would be pissed.
Re: the new house
That is why there is a warranty on new construction....get on them fast while they are still in business. I do hate bad toilets and found that there is really only one good toilet left in the world.....Toto brand G-Max or Tornado flush systems.
Re: the new house
Our builder is on it. He has the list, got people coming to take care of it.
The ice build up is the one that p%## me, but it happens. Unfortunately, my mind slipped and I didn't think about scrapping the snow off the edge of roof as it built up. Heat tape is in the plans.
Speaking of toilets. Why do we still have round plungers for a square hole.?

Re: the new house
You really shouldn't have a problem with the ice build up on the roof as long as they used the good drip edging. I splurged on the good stuff with my last roof and never had a problem again with leaks from ice build-up.

Re: the new house
I used to radon work for home builder in Omaha who once told me that all homes built today have an expected lifespan of 30 years. Think about that, expected life of 30 years! Just like cars, houses have become disposal in design....since about 1979.
I went old...old school with my railroad built 1860, but it has been impervious to storms. It is a 2.5 story house yet it was the only one in my town that wasn't severely damaged by the massive hail storm or tornadoes that rolled through here a couple of years ago. All I had were 2 chips in my siding.
Of course, it isn't fancy either like a modern home. This is a pretty plain, utilitarian designed building, but very stout. They will get it squared away Matt and then you can enjoy it, don't be upset with the builders either. My wealthy brother built his 1.2 million dollar home and had a slew of problems the first few months....it is just the way things go.
