Re: Descale products
Just about anything that's very low PH seems to work, just make sure you naturalize it with a high PH chem and flush well after running it threw system for 10-15 min......and protect yourself well, do not get any low PH acid on your skin or especially in your eyes!!
I got tired of being ripped off on the overpriced Prochem descaler that the distributors sell us, and started getting creative a yr or so ago. Since then I've used some powdered type acid tile cleaner (the etching type, not like the homeowner spray bottle cleaner) I got from HD. And then started using bathroom type descaling type cleaner (1-2 PH full strength), that I buy from the local janitorial supply for about $14 gal., witch is the stuff I use when I do acid cleaning on grout.
And most recently, and just last weekend I descaled my LG heater core with Muriatic acid (1 PH or a little less full strength), I bought from Lowe's in the pool section, and only $12 for 2 gallons. This stuff took my inter coil from a slimy chem and calcium buildup mess inside to looking like new polished copper is about 10 min.
BUT as I said, again!!.............When using strong acid like this, protect yourself well, do not get any low PH acid on your skin or especially in your eyes, AND NEUTRALIZE it with a high PH chem and flush well after running it threw your system!!

Be careful you can damage the seals in the HP pump and the press. reg. I'm sure once in awhile will work just a warning

Yes, Correct.
And to all...............
What I mentioned using in my last post is some strong stuff, that works very well and real quick, and the reason I mentioned, a couple times, neutralizing it with a high PH chem and flushing well. And is also the reason I used the Muriatic Acid on just my heater core only, rather than running it threw the whole system.....for whole system descaling the strongest I'd prob go would be the "Descaling Acid" (2 PH), I showed pictured, that I buy from the janitorial supply.

After looking up the specs I can see why, it's 0.5 PH (full strength), which is comparable to the Muriatic acid I posted above. But W0w, at about $45 a gal. :affraid:I think I'll stick to the Muriatic from Lowe's for $6 a gal.!
Guess we can add that one to the Suppliers bending you over thread!!

Re: Descale products
I'm certainly no chem scientist that's for sure!....but I just simply looked at the specs to see what PH it was. I know there's more to it than PH
If anything, Joe, you know way more than all of us put together when it comes to this stuff, so you tell me/us?
I've been waiting, because I figured I had it coming, on why what I'm using for descaler is a bad thing.......I'm just surprised no one has shot me down yet, and brought up the bad in it yet?!!? LOL

Re: Descale products
I just simply looked at the MSDS, as they don't seem to specify the PH anywhere else.
You have to look at the MSDS .pdf file to find it..............

Re: Descale products
The suppliers don't tell us because if they did we wouldn't buy Masterblend's for $45 a gal!!...........we all know that right??
"I wonder if you can pick this stuff up same time you're buying your super concentrated Liquid Hydrogen peroxide?"
I'm sure we could!...but for how little we use this stuff buying it in bulk to save a couple bucks I doubt would be worth it, and then have to store it (not for me anyways), when we can buy from lowe's for less than $6 a gal.
Here's the link.. ............

Re: Descale products
Hey Davey
That reminds me of my military days. Look at the MSDS for storage and warnings some chemical should NOT be stored together or you can get to much bang for your buck if you know what I mean.

What dilution rate are using with the muriatic acid to water on a normal basis?
