I Hate Foam........

...So I use a lot of De-Foamer. Like 1-2 gallons a month, I hate it that much.   

I'm I the only foam hater?   

Yeah. I only have to use it like three times a year. Just had to use it yesterday. One of those I clean my own carpet ladies. I always tell them not to do that.

U using De foam from carpet cleaning suppliers or Downy? downy is the best de foam, so cheap and works way better than the crystal stuff or anything else ive tried

I mix up a hand soap dispenser bottle with about 50/50 and just squirt it in the vac line

That self cleaning foam in carpet one is defiantly where you need it...

But where I use most of it is preventing foaming, like adding it to my S/O pre-spray always.

I only use Liquid, from the local Janitorial Supply because it's cheap and great stuff........$12 a gallon, and it's the super concentrated stuff!  

It's so concentrated, like you, AC I mix it 50/50 with water because it's thick, but in a Qt. bottle, with a flip top so it's easy to use.

try downy, its better trust me. Ive tried probably the same stuff you use.

But "Downy" isn't really cheap is it? What does a Qt. cost $3-4? So that would be $9-12 a gal.? I don't use it, so I'm not sure of cost?

my soils and oils just barely foams never have a foam problem with S/O

I used the crystal stuff, then switched to liquid, and now to Downey...it does work better and the tank smells better as well.

Try a private label fabric softner. Usually your local big chain or big box store will have their own brand at about 25% the cost of Downey, works just as well.

I don't mind a little foam...on top of an ice cold beer.

Bro, when you upgrade your blower it probably won't bug you so much. Won't kill your vacuum as badly.

Crystal defoamer is great if theres a huge soap spill on the carpet you just put a handful on it and steam, also if theres a lot of carpet fresh you'll get foam too.

If i sprinkle the crystal defoamer all over the carpet I don't have to stop every 5 minutes to pour more liquids down my hose or in my tank. Think of it this way time is money.

Have not used over a gallon of defoamer in years hummmm wonder what the shelf life of it is.

Have to admit, I don't use a lot either....about a gallon every 4-6 months at the most. I just start the job with some through the vac hoses and I'm done.

What chemicals are you working with that foam so badly?

To be fair, I also use a 210 gallon waste tank so foam never really gets to be a great concern to the blower...rarely get over half full before dumping.

Big waste tank.

What are the pros and cons of that?

Seems like a ton of weight when it gets full.

Do you have some kind of special situations where you need that?

Pro:

1. Don't need to dump until the end of the day normally
2. Very little risk of sucking water directly into the blower

On some larger commercial jobs, I will go through 2 fresh tanks on the one job so having the ability to just keep working without having to unhook to go dump someplace saves me a lot of time. This is especially true when I need security to let me in /out of the property.

Con:

1. Never want to drive with it full...adds a lot of weight.
2. It is a little tougher to keep clean
3. Lose a lot of cargo space in the van

It just depends on what your ability to dump is on your jobs. If you can just use the APO at the site, no reason to have a large tank at all, but if you have to drive miles to the dump site every time like me, that big tank saves me hours every day.

Foam in some machines kills vacuum in the hose you can hear the vacuum go from whistling to a low breathe. Take some dish soap
At the end of your hose run pour it down the hose and see if you wand grabs the carpet like normal with foam everywhere. I don't need it that much either but when you do it's nice to have.

I tried the one from judson lately and maybe i got a bad batch but it was terrible.
Other stuff from jubson labs are great but the defoamer I wasnt convinced.
I love the one from ecolab mixed a liitle bit with the chesmpec defoamer on powder.
Also I don't think it is a good idea to mix it in the pre spray, I have the feeling it might cut some percentage of cleaning ability from the pre spray.

I prefer to put in the filter before the recovery tank, and some in the hoses, but only if i do a big job.
The pre sprays I neve got any foam are: powermax from cobb, powerburst or enzym pre spray (from matrix).

I use it daily in my Soils n Oils PS, to keep the foaming down, that's where I'm using 95% of the defoam I use. I normally don't have a problem with foaming in the tank or hose as some have assumed and commented on.
