Found my next truck
Well, it happened today. I found my next truck for my Judson and just agreed to terms. You have seen this type of truck before as you watched AC build his propane TNT project...I still think it was my favorite set-up to date.
So, for good or bad, I will be bringing home a 2005 Isuzu with 12 ft vending body. The mileage and history were both excellent along with all the service records, so I just couldn't talk myself out of it. This is a brochure on them built by Hackney to give you an idea of their features. I will share much more once I get it home in the next week or so and start removing the dividers.

Hopefully, I will have it ready to work in October.

She looks pretty clean, just need to remove some of the dividers. Hopefully, I can keep the last compartment just for equipment space. My head is spinning with plans right now.

Anyone want the safe in that smaller compartment? Seller doesn't have a key, but a stick of TNT should about do it.

If it's full of money I'll take it!!

Re: Found my next truck
That's beautiful Rob. I would love to be able to work out of one of those. I hear you can turn those on a dime too. Is there a wrap in your future?

There is a wrap in the future, but I haven't decided on a scheme yet. I am still considering doing a military motif with a camouflage pattern and the logo in flat black. The interior liner was originally going to be black, but they all tend to fade in time, so a lighter color might be in the works....maybe olive drab?
I have most of the lay-out on graph paper and it should allow me plenty of room for extra storage in the back. I just have to strip out those aluminum panels...some are 3 inches thick and cost hundreds from Hackney!
I am not sure how I am going to insulate it...if I even can...before winter arrives. It is double-walled thick aluminum which does pretty well on its own (my old ambulance stayed pretty warm with that kind of box), but those doors are just trouble for winter.
I really can't wait to work out of this truck. No more smelly vans, no more crap falling out when I open a door, no more sweating my butt off in a van without air conditioning and a burning hot heat exchanger behind my seat. I will not be able to stand-up in it completely, but still better than a van or low cargo trailer. I am excited about it obviously.
Re: Found my next truck
You no what's cool is you can run a three man crew from that cab, couple that with 2 TMs in there and you can do some damage commercially.

I have been considering that very thing....I have 2 graph paper lay-outs, one just like you suggested. It will drive me crazy until I can pick it up on the 8th.
Re: Found my next truck
mine came with a safe also, guess its standard to have one on those type of trucks
sounds like you found a good one, you wont regret the isuzu engine

Nice truck Rob. Sell the safe for scrap metal or to someone who buys scrap metal.

There will be plenty of pictures on this one....I want to have something to remember if it turns into a mistake and crushes my business in repair costs.
Re: Found my next truck
As I get closer to the pick-up date, I was able to graph out the locations for all the equipment (tnt, tanks, reels, etc.) and it looks like I can mount almost everything in the first 2 compartments once I remove the narrow compartment and the dividing wall that runs the length of the box.
That leaves me a solid 8'x3' space in the last compartment for floor machines, tile tools, etc. I like the looks of this on paper.
The only thing left to wrestle with are the dividing walls. I can actually keep them in-place except for the narrow compartment and fit everything. That would give additional wall space to mount items and help isolate the flammables from each other.
The negatives would be that I would need to cut access holes to connect hoses between spaces and it would prevent warm air flow from reaching all areas in the winter. So, I am thinking of cutting out the lower portion of the dividers to allow better access.
Do you think 12 inches would be high enough or maybe go higher? Each panel should be about 48 inches tall.

What about cutting the tops of the panels rather than the bottoms? If it's also for winter heat transfer it seems like that might be better, since heat rises? Or maybe I'm missing the point??
Panels 48" tall?...makes me think I'm missing it?
I thought they went floor to ceiling/roof?
