Just an FYI......there are much better packing materials available for silencers like this, than regular household 'pink' type insulation. Tom I'm letting you know, because you actually would be able to benefit from it...

So there's two I know of that come to mind, and the second one being the better choice, I think..

The first being actual 'silencer packing', made of a fiberglass type insulation. But this stuff unlike the pink Tom mentioned is actually made for auto and M/C silencers.....you can find it at places that sell pipes and cones for making exhaust systems. Then there's the race car SS type packing, it looks like steal wool, and is made for custom made race car mufflers. I believe it's a better choice because it doesn't 'blowout' like fiberglass (which usually causes the need for re-packing fairly often), and is also as good if not better at actually 'silencing'.

Yes Dave is correct about other materials, I put these together 2 years ago, I tried the car muffler thing and that was a FAIL just to loud.
I messed up one day and some how sucked a rag in the waste tank I didn't know I had done it, when I went to drain tank it plugged the drain port so my son just figured it was empty, well I started cleaning the next job and I had two blowers spitting water out of them, and soaked the insulation packing, so it is pretty crispy in there, it has gotten a little louder but no where close to my friends Amtex Dragon.
Maybe I will change it out this week end
I honestly didn't know it was going to work as well as they did, that is why I went with the pink because it was very inexpensive to try.

I wonder if you were to coat the filters with a ceramic sound deadener like "Lizard Skin" if it wouldn't be even better than packing alone?

I'm not sure what the temperature rating is for the hush mats, but the lizard skin should be able to handle the heat.

I'm betting it would make a difference...might even coat the muffler on my TNT to find out.
