Check out this request for a quote
I received a request for a quote today on my website to clean 4 bedrooms. Here was his comment, "Stanly Steamer offered $110 with a coupon. Can u match or beat? "
I probably should have called him some folks would have even done an onsite quote but I just wasn't in the mood.
I responded, " Sorry Mark I can't match that price but thank you for requesting a quote and let me know if I could be assistance in the future." I should have said have fun having your carpets wet for two days
How would you have responded?

I would have told them that I can't beat that price, but I can certainly beat their clean and to be prepared for their attempts to raise the price. Then I would have given them my quote so that when SS does inflate the price, they will know where the breaking point is located.
Never miss an opportunity to close a deal and there is still time. Contact them after-wards and ask them how it went? If they were not happy with some aspect of it, offer to fix it for a low price.....then you can rub their nose in it while you clean.
Re: Check out this request for a quote
Like Rob said, sell your quality services and tell them you do not price match.
Maybe even have a paragraph already prepared to tell people what to expect with YOUR quality services. That you prevac, include spotting, or whatever.
I still would have shot him a price, even if it was a range or just a ballpark.
Definitely follow up with them, and se if they were satisfied.

Re: Check out this request for a quote
" If your shopping criteria is low price as opposed to quality then I will tell you up front that were not going to be the cheapest price you will get", I hear my wife say this quite often on the phone. Then she hits all the positives, owner on location. all natural/non toxic, quality work, quick drying, were very booked up though.........
Re: Check out this request for a quote
I've had a few ask "can you beat..."? I flat tell them I don't try to beat my competitors offer.
You could ask them what level of quality are you looking for?
OR, how important is the drying time?
Or, do you want to avoid high pressure upselling and additional(surprises) charges?
Find out what they are expecting with those parts of the service?
Get them to not put so much weight on " how much is it going to cost"!

Re: Check out this request for a quote
Great feedback guys I should have just gave him my estimate and made a better attempt at selling myself and service. My price is on my website and my 3 rooms price is listed and the four rooms would have been almost twice as much as the steemer quote.
Re: Check out this request for a quote
"No, I wish I could match that price, but I cant. I certainly appreciate you asking though. Stanley Soaker will do a good job of getting your carpets cleaner for that price, however, our objective is to get your carpet clean, not just cleaner. It's just a different business model. There's a place for both. Some want their carpet cleaner, some want their carpet clean. Feel free to call with any questions you may have though, regardless of who you choose to do business with, no obligation, I just enjoy talking about clean carpet.

Tel them you can match their price, but also you will match the fine print. Extra charge if they want pre spray , 10 bucks per stain, 60000 bucks for pet odor, .
4 rooms $110 (up to 200 sf) 45 cents per sf above that.
Or you will clean it at your price and do every thing needed for the low some of $179.99
As a side bonus you will not send two pot smoking punks to their home to do the job.
