I know there are a lot of cleaners running away from silk, I've cleaned silk area rugs and silk blend rugs in the past with sapphire tool, they have to be in decent conditions for me to clean them, but what if they're a little soiled ? What's the best cleaning methods and solutions to use on them ? And how much would you charge for area rugs and upholstery ?

Depends on the value of the rugs for me.  If it is high end, it really deserves a specialist and a good rug pit.  Many of them are starting to use a mild aqueous ozone solution to soak out urine stains which is not normally found by the average cleaner.

Silk is found not only in those rugs, but many quality peices of furniture use silks, so we encounter them in many ways...some might not even realize it (check the stitchings).

I used to clean silk drapes with dry cleaning sponges sandwiching the fabric between them and just lightly dragging them down the fabric.  On a rug that is soiled or stained...probably better off handing it to a specialist as they can be worth more than your van

That's true, that's why I only clean the "clean" ones, lol, I don't even clean silk upholstery, but the $$ entice me, just wondering if it's worth the risks or not.
I think with the right cleaning solutions and process, the risks can be minimized, I could be wrong, lol.

The risks can be minimized with the right chemistry...there are some very good ones out there, but they can go sideways on you pretty quick.

I remeber doing a silk lounge awhile back that had an ink stain about the size of a pencil eraser. Well, it did until I tried to remove it, then it spread quickly into a spot the size of a football!!

I ended up paying for that piece of furniture to the tune of $3500. It takes plenty of cleaning to make up for that one.

Ouch Rob, sorry to hear that, I definitely won't go crazy as trying to remove stains and things like that, I just want to be able to do a simple cleaning at a lot higher rates but on the other hand I'm also starting to absorbing these risks you mentioned, it may not be worth it after all huh, lol.

I avoid them now. At least my Sister is still enjoying that lounge.

People who can afford to purchase a very expensive piece of furniture like that will not be kind to a mistake.

Just a couple months ago I was invited to clean a sofa set that was both silk outer and down feathers inside. No freakin way lady.

We are the same,  if its pretty clean you can trust matrix all fiber rinse wont hurt it at all...   if its greasy or soiled bad then matrix wont hurt it..  just wont get it that clean

next in the line up is natural orange...  its a neutral pH upholstery cleaner that we have used on silk before with good results

if its really fancy or really dirty just pass, move on to the next job,   its not worth it
