New oil in my TM motor Empty New oil in my TM motor

Went to buy some synthetic oil for my v twin Harbor Freight special. Went to Advanced auto parts- always over priced unless you use the 20% internet discount and then you are paying average retail. Then walked over to the much smaller Napa right around the corner. Sold me some Amsoil 4 cycle commercially rated 10w30 made for commercial engines generators and the such, about $8.00 a quart ( $2 ;less than advanced). Didn't even know this stuff existed. I only use about 1 1/2 quarts so it seems worth it. Sales guy said all the landscapers use it. Anybody use this?

I think any syntetic oil is going to be far superior than dino oil.

I usually use Mobil1, or other syn oils if they are on sale and considerably cheaper.

But unless you already have 50 hours or so on that engine, I wouldn't yet switch to syn oil..........you want to make sure it's broken in well on dino first before going to syn. oil.

I've used Delo 400 all my life and haven't tried synthetic yet. Ive been adding this to my oil and fuel to keep all my high mileage vehicles up and going. http://enginelifetreatment.com/ Heck it even has a warranty.

I'd drain whatevers in there now, sense you don't know what it is, and replace with any synthetic oil.

Costco has the best deal when it has $ 10 off a case of 6 quarts, comes down to $ 26 - $ 27 ?
Brian, in my experience those warranties are a bunch of bolognies, they will find any excuse they can to get out of paying for new motor, user's abuse, motor malfunction, etc.
I'm not saying those oil treatments are bad, I used slick 50 and one more brand which I can't remember in the past, they really help older motor runs better and smoother.
Mobil 1 for me 5w30 for all the motors in my garage and driveways.

It's just a personal issue...WalMart is the beast to me. Im not influenced by price...never have been and probably wont ever be....its funny how I am about money....I never really had much of it but its nothing that controls me, its value is over rated....I am big on barter, Gold and silver, self employed and staying away from company's that knock off others products and sell cheaper.

Im wired oddly and I know it. I think outside the box and dont do well with others telling me what to do....BUT, I like to do for the underdog and im considered a people person. I have very wealthy friends and they feel as I do...its about belief and WalMart doesnt fit into this category...they hurt people not help people. I live the "pay it forward" motto and live for the "high" of shocking people with off the wall good situations. I do not like when people are trying and get into a financial situation then taken advantage of. I love to help troubled kids and hate monopolies....I love transparency and just like people to be real.

LOL....sorry this is so scrambled but Im multi tasking at the moment.

A new engine should not run on synthetic until broken in...rings need to seat first. Otherwise, you may never attain proper oil control and end up burning oil.

The best non-syn has always been the Castrol GTX. It was designed for the high revving turbo engines found in foreign cars....nearly a race oil. Our family shop only used that on foreign engines since the late 70's.

Amsoil makes a very good syn oil...access and price are the only concerns.

On a direct drive, I don't like using synthetic due to cost. I change the oil every month, so any good conventional oil will get the job done fine. A quality dino oil is very effective when it is clean, synthetic will actually lower the engine temp a few degrees which also will lower the heat available to your Hx on a direct drive.

One tip with the direct drives is to run them with the hood open. All the seals and hoses get baked pretty quickly with the hood closed. Especially the hydraulic lines.

Pure BS.

When synthetics first came out, they were not very compatible with dino oil, which is where that belief came from. Now, they are almost all fully compatible....ever notice all the part-syn oils on the shelf? You can go back and forth, no big deal, but for longest life in an engine you want to choose a brand and stick with it. Changing brands introduces different mineral stocks and additives....some might not work well together.

I run Amsoil in everything. If you pay a small fee you get a good discount. I buy enough for a couple of years at a time. They have special oil filters and air filters for cars too.

I wouldn't bother much with the Amsoil filters, but I do like their oil.

The only reason I say that is that there are only a few filter manufactures out there and Amsoil isn't making their own. I believe they just re-brand filters from Baldwin...as does Napa, K&N, and many others.

Baldwin is located here in Nebraska and makes a very large percentage of filters in use today. Save some money and check them out for your filters.

Don't know if they make any for those vehicles or not, but you can find about everything else. They are probably the most common filter in use by fleet managers today.
