Fuel lines Empty Fuel lines

Post by milspec6 Fri Jun 12, 2015 7:33 am

A topic came up today as I was setting up the Bud project, namely, fuel hoses.

How many of you are using automotive fuel hose with your truck mounts? Seems logical, but is it really the best choice? Have you considered Marine grade fuel hoses?

A marine grade fuel hose (A1-15 standard) are designed with a stronger cover than automotive hose and is compatible with ethanol fuels. The cover acts as a barrier for the inner core to prevent permeation (fumes and leaks) as well as adding fire resistance.

This may be very important for guys running out of vans as it can reduce the odors, leaks, and most importantly, reduce your risk of fire.

Does it cost more per foot? Yes, it does, but we don't use more than maybe 6 feet of it so I believe it is well worth it for added safety. I just bought 10 feet of it for just under $30 compared to the NAPA hose which would have been half that amount.

Added safety for $15 is a bargain.

Great tip!!!.......I've never thought about using anything else besides what comes from the auto parts store, but it does sound like a good idea for added safety.

Wish I had know earlier, will use it on my next project. Reminds me of the marine exhaust hose that connects the blower to the waste tank. Got the head technician of the manufacturer on the phone and he recommended a corrugated style that really works well- cost extra but is much more flexible and easily attachable.

^^^Yea, the stuff that looks like giant vac hose, and uses Vynal cuffs is the plan because it has some flex to it.........so it's much easier to work with and clamp tight than that stiff BELLOWSFLEX™️ hose, don't let the "Flex" in the name fool you. laughing

The fuel line needs to be rated to handle the ethanol that gas has in it, the old rubber lines break down and leak.

Yup, marine hose is rated accordingly.

I considered steel braid for both fuel and propane.
