Never know who your neighbor is

A few blocks from our home is a house we drive by everyday and we always wave at a friendly gentlemen sitting in his chair. Well, today I decide to just stop and say hello neighbor. Taliked with him for 40 minutes, found out he is 62 and cleaned carpets for the last 25 years of his life. He told me about his PTO driven TM and how he cleaned for just about every business in our area. He told me he had a severe stroke a couple of years back and they didnt expect him to talk again. Besides the fused discs and other phisical isues They told him he would never physically be the same and he told the dr.s he had "heart" and is a fighter. I'm sure glad I stoped and said hello. I think he might be related to Mil. because he is running a marathon for cancer next month.

Or a look at the future if we don't work smarter and take better care of our selves. But he sounds like a tough old bird. Wish him luck on the marathon.

Wow, I always consider myself as a fighter but feel very weak compare to Rob and some guys like that, I wouldn't have hope if the dr told me what he told that guy.

Today I stoped by and he invited me into his house and he was embersed of a few traffic areas in his carpet, he said, "because i am on ssi and only get 600 a month and have to pay morgage, and utilities etc. I dont have much money. I had a guy come by a while back and would clean it for 35.00 but as soon as he pulled out the simle green to clean it, I said no thank you."
I told him wow, dont worry now you have a friend who has two TM's, ill be back over tonight.

Wow, SG carpet cleaner huh, lol You get what you pay for.

I had a customer years ago, that thought he would be helpful, and pre-spot his carpet prior to my arrival with Simple Green.
The problem was, SG is green because it has dye in it, or did back then, and with his carpet being ultra white, those green dyed spots stood out like a sore thumb, and I wasn't able to get them out by cleaning..............so he ruined his carpet.

Good for you Brian, helping a neighbor is always a worthy act.

I would offer some caution however to his story. Running a marathon is expensive to complete. On average, counting cost of shoes (I had to buy a new pair every 6 weeks at $140 each), race entry ($150), travel if out of town, finish line photos, race chip, etc....I would say $1500 for an out of town event and still half that local.

Sounds like a fighter, but also sounds like a manipulator....it could go either way so don't give away too much until you know for certain which direction the wind is blowing.

Just got back, my donkey is wore out. He does like to talk and most of the time was b.s.ing. and listening to all his stories. The carpet had so much cat crap in the corner under the table and the entry was from oil and grease from his cars in the garage. He did talk about how to get upsales on a carpet jobs and etc. and make the customer feel like your giving them a good deal but because of all the costs of chemicles and how bad there carpet is it is going to cost more to clean it. I dont know how the upsale or b.s. anyone because I have always been so honest that I end up loosing money and I hate charging even though it costs. I do need to be careful and not get manipulated especially when I can be to much of a giver of my time, money etc. and then it ends up costing me in the end. THATS WHY I'M GOING TO LA and have my fellow brothers give me some of there wisdom also.

Glad youre helping him Brian. Sounds like a sincere guy....I like to help others as well. Reminds me of a time when I came home from doing some work and told my wife I had a great day and we have a new room mate for the empty room.... I found a guy who was down on his luck and I just knew he was a victim of circumstance...and he was! We get really good at reading people.

Brian, when are you planning to come ? If you want to have lunch with us ( me and Dave ) please let us know at least a week or two in advance, it's summer and we're slammed busy, I prefer Mondays through Wednesdays.

Actually I really don't care as long as I know enough in advance to book out that time, so I don't schedule work for that time.......the 5 seconds before stuff doesn't usually work for me.

The 5 seconds before stuffs usually end up being a thousand bucks job for me, therefore I love them, why do you think I bailed on you sometimes last year ?
