Way too much and then not near enough. Razz

I normally hang onto 55% of every job after expenses. Well, hang onto it for a day or two before I recklessly spend it on stupid stuff.

Fuel is about 5% or less, labor is about 20% ( including workers comps and payroll taxes ), supplies and chemicals is less than 5%, insurances ( vans and liability ) is about 2%, equipments are all paid off, vans payments is about 3%, I'm sure I'm forgetting some other expenses because the total now is about 30%, I think my profits before taxes is closer to 60% but after taxes is more like 40%.

Huh ? Am I missing something ? Accountant can only do paperwork, they will be able to help you with percentages of things like we talked about, but they can't give you advices on lowering some of the percentages of expenses and stuffs, plus Devon is just asking to get an idea of where his numbers should be I think ?

I asked to help me see where things are basically at now days...imagine you stopped cleaning today....and ten years later you get back in!....most of my old "tricks" are still good but a lot has evolved...gas prices, advertising methods, Equipment etc. So see roughly where you guys are helps me measure against the real pros (you guys are pros arent you?) Wink but really it helps me a bit.

milspec.....My spending habits arent normal either but it would make most freak out.

I am a little eccentric too, just put a dimmer switch in the bathroom....what the hell do I need a dimmer for in the bathroom? It keeps the fish happy as I always have one of these.....

Haha, I've always had dimmers in my bathrooms.......much better than having that full bright light in your tired eyes when you have to "go" in the middle of the night.

Yes, I AM the Pro! laughing

I'd say there are very few things that haven't changed for the better in the last 10 years.

Chems are waaay better, and safer, especially pet odor removers.
Wands I think are much better, and now we have glides for them.
We now clean T&G on a regular bases, because so many people have ditched their carpet.
We now care about dry times, and make many equipment improvements to speed therm up, rather than leave
a customer with wet carpet that takes a day or 2 to dry.
We now have cool cuffs and water claws!!
Peroxide!
The list could go on n on I guess.
If I had a 10 yr. break from this biz, it would be almost like learning all over again. Very few things I learned long ago, still apply today.
