Credit cards and Tips?
I finally got my credit card reader and went through my local bank fr the best offerings....my question is this...when setting up the account for your phone did you use the "tip" option? when they pay it gives an option to tip ME and you can select 10, 15, and 20% im not seeing anything but maybe a 10% but didnt know if this was to forward to give the option....also, if they want to tip they need the option. Feedback??

I'm not sure that option is available on Pro Pay Devon but I don't think it's out of the ordinary. But most people tip me in cash
Re: Credit cards and Tips?
Around my burg, I get a lot of customers who are still stuck in the 1970's when there was no banking post 5pm.
As a result, they tend to pay the bill with a check for half and cash for the other half...that way you have some spending money until the bank re-opened. The cash portion is where they add the tip, often rounded off to the nearest $20.
Some of them still have rotary phones on the wall too.

Re: Credit cards and Tips?
the secret to tips, simple hit the entry mats and quick easy rinse on the cheap hall way runners
or the carpeted step in the garage, sometimes carpet remnants in the garage.. anything small that only takes a few seconds
works like magic

Rotary phones...lol
Im always big on the small things like rugs or that spot on the car seat etc. I just didnt know how people related to paying with a cell and CC then a Tip option as well.

Me personally, I wouldn't tip like that.
To me, a tip is a personal thank you and that generally comes in cash. Digital tipping never feels anything, but impersonal.

My biggest tip was $100 in cash. I was blown away.

Re: Credit cards and Tips?
I bought a cup of coffee while in Kansas one time and the guy handed me a cup....when I paid as I do with my card, it had a place for me to tip! He handed me a cup! for the coffee I paid for! A CUP! I just feel odd when a tip is suggested for stupid reasons. If I dont put the tip option someone will ask at some point....im torn. I tip frequently when eating and they just bring food you bought.....its odd to me....our industry is the one that deserves tips! I do get them often and never expect them.

Re: Credit cards and Tips?
I had a crazy Uncle Bob who would tip with gold nuggets back in the 70's when gold was about a $100 per ounce.
People went crazy getting a tip from him, like they were just blessed by the Pope. That is a powerful tip.
Tipping to me should never be a planned expectation. It is like an encoure for a band. Once it became planned, it lost all the meaning of rewarding a great crowd.
I wouldn't include it Devon.

I noticed when I had my baby faced nephew working with me we would got a lot more tips.
The second half of the summer I have my friends 25 year old bearded son working with me and we get nothing and he's more detail oriented than my nephew.

Re: Credit cards and Tips?
I will say this! I got much more in the way of tips when I worked for a company!...being an owner they think we are loaded i guess.
I had a line I would use back in the day....if the people had the balls to ask how much I got paid I had them to say "Not real good but my TIPS make up for it" they just got hung! Asking how much we got paid was a common question when one of those companies would always be hiring and trying to atract saying carpet cleaners wanted earn $200+ a day. so they asked.

Re: Credit cards and Tips?
Sometimes I was asked if they can tip in the CC transaction, mine isn't set up in separate transaction for tips, so I allow my techs to get tips charged to the CC transaction, I usually just give them the cash at the end of the day, it sucks cause I have to pay taxes on those because uncle Sam thinks that it's my service payments but it doesn't happen often, most tip in cash.
The biggest tips I got from a single job was $ 60, but my tech had gotten $ 200 in tips from a single job !!

Re: Credit cards and Tips?
Wow 200 is big, I think my biggest was a $100.
If you don't count the old guy that paid me cash for a $400 job, Twice!!....he forgot he paid me and paid me a second time, I was thinking he was tipping me until he handed me another 400. SO that would have been a 400 tip if I wasn't honest, and didn't tell him he had already paid me.

Re: Credit cards and Tips?
We have the tipping button. My tech (is supposed to) hands the phone over and asks to verify the amount then hit next to imply no tip is needed. He still gets tipped on 40% of his credit card transactions.
I don't think its forward. Customers don't grasp that you chose that option they just assume its part of the app.

Shaggy Thanks man! that was good info....I didnt expect to hear a percentage but very cool! Also nice to know they think its an app thing.
