Trashed out polyester
I was cleaning this polyester carpets today in an apartment complex in east LA, yeah you can imagine what it looks like, I should've taken some pictures, I sprayed it really heavy and I realized then that it was cleaned unprofessionally by the tenants because the soiling just didn't budge, I set my temperature at max and started extracting, that carpets just laughed at me, I only got it cleaned about 20 - 30 %, I spent almost an hour from start to finish and it was only a 1 bedroom apartment, a small one that is.
I've had this same issue at least once in the past where the soils just hardly budge and it was also due to residue that was left by rug doctor, the sad part is this carpet is only 10 months old.
The great news is the other 2 units in that same complex came out really nice, I get to blame the rug doctor and the tenants, lol.
I'm sure you guys veterans have dealt with this issue in the past, how would you clean this and what products would you use ? Please don't tell me I have to scrub fels naptha all over the traffic areas, lol.

Re: Trashed out polyester
I find that's when most of the time the soil is really greasy or oily, so that's when I put a couple oz of Dissolve in the pre-spray and it makes all the difference.

Re: Trashed out polyester
Oily residue is right......bong oil perhaps?
The highest ph will do nothing to it, I like using "Dissolve" on those, but Pro's Choice Energy does well too.
Actually, I hit all poly carpets with those products whether they appear to need them or not since poly holds oil so well.

Milspec6, Where do you buy dissolve? Is it the same product they advertize for cleaning hair salons? Always looking to improve...

Re: Trashed out polyester
Here you go RR......
I buy it from my local suppliers. Been using it for years, couldn't imagine not having it, Â love the stuff!
It's my go to pre-spray booster for those greasy-oily ones (I put in 1-3 oz in 5 qt jug).
And my spotter for the same type  of  stuff^.
I also use it straight a lot of times for gum, paint, tar, makeup, adhesives, ink, all that kind of crap.

Re: Trashed out polyester
Not sure what I would use but I would have tried 240 and a strong prespray....break out the HOSS and give it all I got, like you did.
I cleaned a matress and everything came out except one ring from a urine stain....it cleaned very well and impressed even me....she wasnt real happy about the ring....Im thinking maybe its 6 yrs old and I know I got urine out ....she was tickled with the lack of odor and over all cleaning /sanitizing.....im thinking, its not even going to be seen. It lightened about 60%. sometimes you just cant get 100%

Re: Trashed out polyester
Grease eraser plus a crb scrub eats soil/grease/oil out of anything, Â mix it strong and I guarantee nothing lives through that when you extract at 220+
oil bonds to polyester very well, the carpet was designed to be "soil" resistant being a plastic, but oil bonds to it hard
just needs a heavy scrub
but there are carpet types being made now that are just beyond cheap, Â Â like 4-5 levels cheaper than the worst crap you can buy at home depot and they are only sold wholesale to builders
If you imagine a bath mat from Wal Mart, Â Â its basically a large version of that.. Â Â takes about 6-8months and its completely worn out/scarred/ holes in the living room in front of the couch etc Â
I heard from a builder they can get it as cheap as .65/sq ft

I'd MiX up some power burst, crank up the psi to 550; then just blast it. Worst outcome has been 80% improvement.
Some citra booster would help, don't go to strong or you'll get residue.
A friend uses dissolve, he can get anything out with that and time.

Re: Trashed out polyester
Interesting comments. It's funny to hear carpet price quoted by sq. ft., rather than the sq. yd.....that s.f. craaa..../stuff is just another way to make prices seem cheaper to the consumer. But anyone that really deals in carpet, selling, installing or whatever prices it by sq. yd.
Just something I find entertaining, misleading, and confusing....which is the point I guess.

Re: Trashed out polyester
carpet retailers usually price by sq yd but some whole sale and home depot is usually sq ft
Re: Trashed out polyester
Customers understand sqft better than sqyd.....less math. When a carpet installer quotes in yards, you can actually see the confused look on the customer's face.
I'm just as bad too. I was pricing some acoustic curtains last night and was annoyed at having to break out the scratch paper to do the math.

Re: Trashed out polyester
You can learn from that Rob!....people love simplcity! market that way. I hate when we get coupons in the mail, ONLY because they have so many catches....use only on Friday...only on this item....use with that....uhhhggg!!! I tell my wife when we go shopping, if she has coupons I'll be in the car! I hate it that bad......people feel cornered when at a register and wont generally create a voice and just fall subject to the scam. I am vocal and this is why im in the car. lol If a coupon is clean and not a big deal (simple) I like it....PIZZA comes to mind. buy one get one etc.

Re: Trashed out polyester
also usually when a builder or contractor is installing flooring in someones home, from what I have seen they always quote per sq ft, even though Im sure they many times are buying by sq yd
Re: Trashed out polyester
Cheap Poly=WEAR.
WEAR=Permanent
Discuss it with the customer before cleaning and set their expectations to include a likely shadow that will remain on higher traffic areas.
The term "cheaper carpet" is very effective in adjusting a customers attitude to the fact that any condition issue that remains after cleaning has more to do with their decision to save a buck, than any inadequacies in your cleaning abilities.

Re: Trashed out polyester
I read this thread DP....and the next day was looking at it myself. There was a top layer of soil that came off easy BUT the spots tried to remain. I pre-sprayed twice and extracted twice in bad areas. the guy was happy....I wasnt happy where the couch was sitting, new under it and flat dingy looking in front of it.

I felt like if I got the top layer of oily soil off I could spray again and get better penetration with some soil missing...seemed to help.

Re: Trashed out polyester
Cheap Poly = Hoss rotary+s/o+s/o/e
That is as close to math that I get. Basically, you have to scrub and I mean scrub them cheap poly carpets and add an encap to the solution to help tighten the fibers.
In the end, it is still just cheap poly crap, but it will at least be presentable. The problem is that it takes more work to complete these steps.
Over the last year, I have been considering an increase in my rates to clean cheap poly carpets due to the extra work involved. That will also price me out of that market, which isn't such a bad thing either as I hate seeing less-than stellar results.

Re: Trashed out polyester
I never turn one down because like the bad pic above....they are usually cheap rentals or just a place that would usually be happy with the results like above....sometimes they arent worried about spots as much as they are about clean. This is one reason I think the CRB may help....prespray heavy, crb real good...220+ temp to get some results....if not, you shouldnt be accused of not trying. Like Goomer says too, educate them....I fall short here sometimes because it gets old. lol

Re: Trashed out polyester
To compound the problem expensive carpet does not equate to high quality carpet.
