Angie's List is now free to join

As of about 2-3 weeks ago Angie's List has stop charging to join. I broke my advertising contract with them after a 9 month period after not receiving 1 CALL! They tried to make me pay for the remainder, I shamed them in to not pursuing it. Not 1 call. I was actually getting more jobs from them from outside of the area I advertised in (2). Anyway you can now request that your customers leave you reviews and it doesn't cost them anything! Been getting a lot of calls from Yext salespeople, been there done that with Angies list. It is free to review on either site! Until they can guarantee performance, I kick them to the curb.

I just saw a post the other day on a window cleaner forum that AL is now charging you if you want your listing to show up.

So yeah, it makes sense what they are pulling. Now anyone wanting to use AL, will pay for the "privilege" of advertising.

Screw them.

I usedd to average a review or 2 a month. Don't think I've recieved one in a months. Maybe I'm not listed on there anymore. I'm  not receiving call from their sales people either

I still get sales calls from them and when I went on there a few weeks ago to sign up, the site said that I already had an account.

It was never any use to me in the first place....glad to close the door on that chapter.

Yext is now hounding me to advertise, I actually have reviews there already, what they want is for me to pay for top of page placement. I will- when they can guarantee calls to my phone, not playing that game again.

What you don't trust me?

I can't see value in ANY of these services in my area. Maybe in LA or NY, but in mid to small sized communities, there just are not enough users making calls to make it worth the expense.

Besides, everything that is "hot" today, is old news in 12 months or less.

Better off putting your marketing efforts into something that works today, and 5 years from now.

SEO is a great way to get more online customers. Its costly though.

Angies list was slow at the beginning of the spring this year when normally busy because they rebuilt their entire website and system. Was a huge pain and had to battle with them to get a month for free.


now its slammed as usual, 2-3 calls per day all high quality customers and many are big tickets in the 500-700+ range

just depends where you are located, in seattle its pretty big so is yelp.

In my opinion, if you use these type of services you are asking to be owned like the phone books used to do.....when you gain momentum they have the ability to charge you as they wish and if your business is structured around them....they own you. I dont and wont support this type of service. Currently Im busier than I can handle and I know I can generate this same outcome in nearly any city without the use of Angies or Yelp type services.

Both angies list and yelp can help grow your business big time but you have to be experienced and know how to work the system.  

for a single truck company its probably not necessary,    word of mouth can keep a truck busy for the most part.  

trying to get to 2-3 trucks or more without ever using this type of advertising is probably not going to happen.

angies list nor yelp owns me or my company,    we use these services to add over 60 new customers to our own database each and every month.      

all high quality,   high paying customers who no longer need to use yelp or AL to find us...     we take them off the market

for pennies compared to the immediate return its a no- brainer,    and the long term return is even more

Those do work well for getting leads. For many people its not as good. If you're not paying for them then youll have to rank well in their organic listing. Ranking in yelp's organic listing can be difficult and honestly I dont know how to do it.
