Christmas Plans Empty Christmas Plans

Post by milspec6 Fri Dec 23, 2016 4:31 pm

So, what does a bunch of hard-working cleaners do for Christmas? Matt looks to be moving into the new home...what is everyone else doing?

Me, I will just be staying home and trying to get some vehicles repaired and the house organized. When you don't have kids, the holidays really are just a day where you can't buy parts and the banks are closed....not much else is different. I received my boat hatch today and will be finishing up the LP tank install on the box truck this weekend if the weather allows it.

We have some snow on the way and expecting 50 mph winds by Christmas, so travel is not going to be a good idea. We have also been told that the power company will have crews standing by to respond to likely power outages, so I guess I should get my kerosene heaters ready to go for another round of joy.

Hope you all have a great weekend with the families.

Sliding doors can become temperamental. My outside handle snapped in half last winter on a very cold day. What you really have to watch for is the trim hardware on the inner door panel. Lose one of those and the door will no longer open as the panel gets in the way.

Lol, when I was picking up some pizzas today, I opened my driver side door and I heard a "clank" sound and after that I wasn't able to open my driver side door from the outside, I'm going to have to open the panel up to check that out.
It's raining again now, been drizzling on and off earlier today and it's supposed to rain hard tonight, we need it and I don't mind it too much if it happens at night.
Other than that, no plans really, got the kids their Christmas gifts already and that was it, another year is going to pass, unbelievable !

The rod must have fallen off Dp. They are only held on by a small clip, often made of plastic or spring steel. I've seen them fall off just by closing a door hard.

The other way they break away is after someone tries to use a slim jim to break into the car. If you are too aggressive, the rod will get knocked loose every time. Just something to consider and be aware of in case you have shady characters around.

We are getting a pizza from the Hut, tomorrow, for Christmas dinner.

Other than that, replacing a snow blower belt and working on my books.

Taking a trip to Gander Mountain Monday for ice fishing supplies and may head off to Bass Pro or Cabela's.

Pizza for Christmas.....same here. It is the one food that is good both hot and cold in case the power is lost again.

As for ice fishing supplies....Bass Pro bought out Cabela's a few months ago so it doesn't matter which one you go to now.

Christmas eve at the sisters, Christmas day at the sister in laws, just got done making 100 potato & cheese pierogies. Been a great year. Finished my last job for the year yesterday at 3pm. I felt like Joe Rockhead just pulled the birds tail on the opening of the Flintstones. Closed between Christmas and New Years. This fall made up for a very slow summer, been going gang busters for the last 3 months- thank god! Merry Christmas to all, and thank you for all your help and great content this year, really helped.

Last week had lunch with about thirty family members, with all the trimmings. (My side of the family ) Today had breakfast with about fifteen family members from the wife's side of the family. Supper tonight with my parents for gifts and Christmas. Tomorrow morning going to my daughters house for gifts and breakfast. Get home and relax and do nothing. But I am sure that I'll find something to do, but it will be what I want to do not have to do. Lol right.

Yeah I knew about the buy out.

In my area, Cabela's is better for hunting and Bass Pro better for fishing. Ice fishing, both are about equal. It's a hour and a half to either place for me.

We do seem to enjoy Cabela's better than Bass Pro though. More things to look at and a nicer environment.

ACE, you don't have a family....you have a platoon!! You are a lucky man, sir.

Being a Nebraskan, I am a Cabela's guy...grew up with them. I always expected Cabela's to buy out Bass Pro instead of the other way around.

Nope, Ford.
Bob, thanks for the tips, will probably let my mechanic handle that as I need him to do some other repairs.

It is easy enough to repair Dp, but you have to find the right spring clip and that means dealing with dealerships most of the time, so that is a pita.

Merry Christmas guys :-)
Well today surprisingly I have plenty of free time left in my hands, so I decided to fix the door handle myself, it's extremely easy to do, it takes about an hour and a half including calling the dealership and went there to pick up the part, $ 7.67 for the stupid plastic clip, the job itself only takes less than 45 minutes.

Well done Dp, you saved yourself some cash and now you know how silly that design really is. It does help to have thin forearms or else it can get to be a problem.
