I know some of you groom the carpet and upholstery, and I also know that velvet absolutely needs to be groomed, but there is just one problem, I hate grooming anything, lol, so when I clean velvet couch and chair today, got all the spots out, asked the customer to look at them before I wrap my hoses up, she freaked out, mind you these are older pieces, she was really mad to see the lines, I had to calm her down cause she looks like she’s about to have heart attack.
Sprayed some diluted deodorizer on them and brush them out, voila, lines are gone.

What bothers me the most is when she said this looks worse than before you started, I was thinking this lady must be blind Shocked

I had the same thing happen on a blood red velvet sectional earlier in the year. I explained to the husband that it would leave tool marks and will require grooming which was an extra cost since he didn't tell me it was velvet over the phone.

He told me he didn't mind the tool marks and that it had been cleaned before so his wife would understand it. Except his wife didn't understand it and became irate while the husband played dumb and denied my warning.

It happens, it was probably the first time she ever had it cleaned and thought you screwed it up. I have cleaning velvet pieces, not only due to the grooming aspect, but because the dry so slowly. Neither one makes a cleaner look good to an uneducated customer.

What did you use to clean ? I used sapphire and they are almost dry when I was done cleaning, that’s why I have to spray some deodorizer to groom them.
Nonetheless it is a pita to groom everything. Next time I will definitely have to charge extra.

Sapphire as well, but it was a lake house nearly 300 feet from the road. I never like using any deodorizers as there is always one customer that hates the smell.

Some customers are used to grooming. So, you must be prepared for the next time.
