Finally, my van is ready to work
As you all recall, I had a new motor installed in my van and things were never right again. Several leaks had to be corrected, then the idler pulley went, it felt sluggish, and would chug under heavy load. It went back to the mechanic 4 times and he always told me that it ran great and he couldn't duplicate my complaints. I drove it less than 5 times because something just wasn't right and it kept costing me more money in repairs when I did.
Last Friday, I took the van to the best mechanic that I knew. He wasn't local and he is even more expensive then the dealer, but he has always been a very detailed mechanic and I have to be able to rely on this van to work in freezing temperatures.
He was, as expected, very thorough and discovered several minor issues along with the main problem....crankshaft position sensor. It is important to note that there has never been any codes or warning lights with this van, yet the sensor clearly had some moderate damage to it from making contact with the reluctor wheel. How that can happen I don't know but it was very obvious.
So, a new sensor and calibration has resulted in a van that literally drives like a new van now. Lots of power and smooth as silk. The repair cost me, but the cause was found and corrected finally after almost 1.5 months of extreme frustration.
It is good to see there are some that still know what the heck they are doing.

Send that repair bill to that other material. That's just frustrating when your paying the guy to fix his shitty work
Re: Finally, my van is ready to work
I really want to Mo, if just to rub his nose in it, but there isn't much I can do since that sensor came from the old engine and may have been already damaged. I can't prove anything other than the fact that I had a lazy mechanic who clearly did not put much effort into finding the problem.
$450 later.....at least it is done now.

That's the best $ 450 you ever spend, I hate mechanical issues, glad you got it fixed.

It really was Dp, I had him crawl through everything and told him to keep it until it was fully reliable.
It drives like a new truck now.
