Butler 2.5 inch live hose reel configuration options
And this is my first Youtube video....
Just wanted to show people who have been asking how we set up our live reels (since we don't use a live reel stock).
Posted this also on my Facebook accounts in case the link doesn't work properly.

Will try to post some stand alone pics of this set up too.

Also, Joe's 2.5 to 2 inch reducers are a good and inexpensive way to do the reducer that you see in the video that we made. I just happened to have the old parts, so made my own. If you contact Joe, he will know what I mean.

Re: Butler 2.5 inch live hose reel configuration options
That is pretty interesting....might give that one a try. Do you lose any vacuum with that over the standard 4 to the door set-up? I really like the idea of shorter segments on the reel, I'm still running segments of 75-50-50-25 on the reel and it isn't always efficient.
Re: Butler 2.5 inch live hose reel configuration options
That's a nifty idea Mark I had to watch the video twice to get it. I'm a little slow.
Those Butlers sure are quite. Were do you get the shaw plugs from? Not sure if it was the sound on the camera but your vac sounded weak maybe that's why the machine sounded quite too.

Re: Butler 2.5 inch live hose reel configuration options
I love your enthusiasm, Mark!! But I have to ask, Why?!?! I guess I must be missing the advantage of the live reel? But I can think if many disadvantages to it, and one new one that just occurred to me watching the video. It must take an extra week training new help on how to use the vac hose!?Mark Saiger wrote: And this is my first Youtube video....

Re: Butler 2.5 inch live hose reel configuration options
I have never run 4 to the door so I cannot tell you differences but running 2.5 for the past number of years, this was an option for us to be able to carry the larger amount of 2.5 hose and come up with a useable option for us.
I know the reducer is hideous Joe....just been working and we rarely use it except if for working around the shop. I keep forgetting to order your reducers when I place an order...LOL.
For the 1.5 whip....we only use it with our stair tool and hard surface tool...otherwise all 2.5 inch and 2 inch hose.
I would agree that unless your people are committed to making sure they "DO NOT" just for convenience use the live reel, this is a bad idea. Any hose being "USED" and left coiled up on the reel is a terrible idea.
We are a family run operation for the most part and if you are an owner operator, have Butlers with live reels, here was the way we figured we could have the best of both worlds.
Thanks for looking everyone.

Oh, and the van was actually in idle mode in the video, so there is a lot more suction when cranked up, but more volume, so we didn't crank it up. Will try to shoot more video of today's jobs and set ups if I get the chance.

Could you post the part numbers? They way that they list the sizes is a little confusing.Mark Saiger wrote:Forgot the plugs

Judging by the little bit of corrosion on your plugs, those marine versions they sell might be the way to go....plus I am partial to the "Marine" versions for some reason.

Re: Butler 2.5 inch live hose reel configuration options
Thanks for the clips, Mark, you look like you have a good routine there. I especially like the second security door...have been thinking about adding one to the rear door and a second on the side door.
In case viewers missed it, notice how quiet that Butler runs? You could actually hear Mark speak right next to it...well, he did have to speak a little louder, but still relatively quiet.

Re: Butler 2.5 inch live hose reel configuration options
You know joe has a lovely 2inch stair tool. I don't even have any 1.5 on the truck any more.
Re: Butler 2.5 inch live hose reel configuration options
@Mark Saiger where did you pick up those tarps? Ive been using moving blankets and they take up way to much room. Those look much better.
Re: Butler 2.5 inch live hose reel configuration options
I will get you the info when I get in tonight. The tarps with canvas and poly work great for us
Re: Butler 2.5 inch live hose reel configuration options
Here is a link to Amazon of what they are. We carry about 7 of these tarps on each van. They are cotton canvas on one side and poly covering on the other side. Work great for us.
